HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy) in Ragdolls

Ragdoll ResearchHypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a genetic heart condition that randomly affects cats, and can cause sudden death in felines that have the mutated gene.

We have had a few letters submitted to the editors of this site, wanting us to provide more information on the topic and offer advice. We personally have not experienced HCM with any of our ragdoll cats, or any breeders that we have worked with in the past, but it is a problem without a cure. HCM affects all breeds of cats and not just the ragdoll - but there is a wonderful organization that is trying to discover the gene that causes it in ragdolls.

Please visit the Ragdoll Research site for more information on HCM in ragdolls, and how you can help with their cause.
