It has been a year of many ups and downs. A lot of joy and a lot of sorrow.
Yesterday, early in the morning my family got a call from eldercare, where my dear Grandfather now lives. He hasn't been doing too well and overnight things got worse. So we called our extended family, some of whom made their way down here today. It's been so painful, I have no words to describe it. I grew up living with my Mother, and my Grandparents. They gave me so much love and support, they still do. And now I'm losing the closest man to a Father that I've ever had. It all seems so horribly sudden, there is no way to prepare.
I have my husband to support me, when he isn't at work. When he is I have my beautiful little Sophie by my side. It's like she knows we're in pain, on edge, waiting to see what happens next. At night she sleeps curled up by my head, her fur is so soft and warm against my face. Constant comfort. No words, just love.
I don't know when my Grandad will pass away, but it seems it will be soon. I know my raggie will always be there to comfort me, when others are too grief stricken themselves.
It is amazing to find an animal so intune, caring, and when I'm in a bad place and need help, she is selfless.
It's funny, but this is the only place online that I want to be. It is filled with love and good intentions.
Thank you for this place.

My kitten, Bobo, just turned 4 month old today. I took him to the vet to get his last 3 in 1 shot and their weighed him at 1 pound and 11 ounces. Now... I've been doing a lot of reading of this forum and this number just doesn't seem right...

When he first came home with me at 3 months old he was 1.5 pounds, which was VERY light still. He got sick with Panleukopenia 2 weeks after he came home and at one point dropped down to 1 pound! Since he came home with me on 8/14 from hospitalization he has been drinking and eating a lot and pretty much completely recovered. However, 4 months old less than 2 pounds?

The vet said that it is probably because he spent a lot of time being sick and thus missed important time periods of growth. What do you guys think? Will he regain his weight or is he going to grow up to be some kind of migid Ragdoll? I read that Ragdoll males are supposed to weigh around 15-20 lb, is he going to be around the 15 lb mark or is he going to be even less than that?

I want him to grow up healthy... how can I do that? He is on Royal Canin's Kitten Instinct 36 dry food right now, can he be eating anything more nutritious?

I have been just leaving his food out for him to eat as much as he wants because I can't match his age and weight to the chart on the back of the cat food to decide how much to feed him everyday...

I just got off the phone (2nd time) with the vet tech to see how Cooper is doing. She mentioned that he has a cone on to prevent him from licking after his neuter (1 testicle regular, 1 cryptorchid (sp?))

It sounds like his surgery was a bit more involved than a regular neuter but less than a spay. I wasn't expecting him to come home with a cone.

She told me they always do it and even though he's bound to hate it (which will make me fell so bad for him) - it's better he hate it than lick it and cause problems with healing.

Apparently, they say he should wear it for a week to 10 days! Does that seem wrong?

I have a vacation planned for December to Florida and yes, I know it's only September, but at this time I can't imagine leaving Sophie for 6 days and I'm stressing already! Our neighbor will be coming in most likely twice a day - morning and later in the evening - so there will be someone, but I wondering what everyone feels when they have to be away for extended periods of time. When I look at her now, it's like, I can't even go to work without thinking it's ok, I'll be home in 8 hours!

My husband and I haven't really had a long vacation in about two years, so I really want to look forward to it, but it's hard when I look into her eyes and think 6 days is way too long to be away!

What's everyone else think about this?

thanks
A cat we used to have had a reaction to walking over a surface I had sprayed with Dettol, she was really ill with sickness and diarrhoea, and I don't want to go through that again! I use a solution of washing powder and water to wash my floors, and I make up a solution of Milton to spray my worktops, and daughters potty etc. In my aviary and dog loo area, I use veterinary Virkon S. Are these safe??? When Bo turns to jello, it amazes me, his legs seem like they could just bend any which way!

I thought I was out of questions, but then I thought of another one.

What have been your experiences with going back to work after getting a new Ragdoll? I'm trying to arrange to have four days at home in a row when we pick up our three beautiful Raggies, but I am wondering what to expect when life gets back to a normal schedule the following Monday. I live far enough away from work that popping back in during lunch hour is not feasible, but I don't want to stress out our cats as they get used to their new digs.

Should I take a half day or try to leave work early the first few days, or just forge ahead knowing that they will be fine without me and will get used to the schedule?

I wish I wasn't such a worry wort...

Cheers!
