Chewing Wires..
Hey guys,

I just got my little man home on the weekend and I've noticed over the last couple of days he's started going for the wires to our bedside lamp and pc's (which are in the bedroom) Our ragdoll sleeps with us, so he's around the wires alot. Because he's not been introduced to our other animals yet we don't want to leave him alone by putting him in another room.

We are going to the petstore today to try some of this spray especially for wires to stop them biting. Just wondering if anyone has tried this, if it works, and if it is safe? It's called Bitter Apple I think!

He's a very persistent little monkey, He's got me worried sick already! >.< I've hardly slept since he started with the wires, for fear of him chewing them whilst I'm asleep and electrocuting himself!

Hi I'm not sure about bitter apples.I never used it ,I;m sure one of the forum members can comment on it tho.
I had the same worries with my little one I think you can buy cord covers at store like Lowe's.
But what my husband did to save money was he got thick cardboard and duct tape and made sleeves for the wires and where we could not make a sleeve we cut the cardboard and tape to furniture and wall to keep Leyla from geting in back of furniture and chewing,
I know it didn't look pretty but it was a safe room for her and I could get some sleep.
Good luck with your little monkey hope you can get so sleep!!!Smile

Our experience is that cats are more interested in wires that are dangling and moving when they go by, which attracts the cat. You may be able to reduce the interest by having all wires come down furniture legs - and even being tied to the leg if needed.

You can get cable organizers into which you can insert the cords to block the kitten. Some have used shower curtain rod covers and cut them to size. Presumably that is less expensive or perhaps they come in more colors.

For a short term fix, you can just unplug as much as you can when you can

Best,
JanH

My Ragdoll Jasper doesn't have a problem with wires at all [Image: 2nkqcmb.gif] - Oh apart from the 6 pairs of Apple Headphones he has destroyed !! He has even figured out a way to open drawers to get them out !!

Good Luck and I hope your Ragdoll learns to stop chewing wires soon Smile

Thanks so much for your suggestions! And Jan you're absolutely right, I suspected he was only going after them because they dangled and to him something string-like that dangles is fair game! My husband has now fixed all the wires down to the back of the desks and they don't move anymore. He hasnt chewed a wire yet today so I'm very happy! Though I do see his little blue eyes straying to the curtains now! doh!

blueragdoll, ouch! Jasper is a real monkey by the looks of it, a cute one at that Big Grin

My daughters Raggie,Zoro, bit thru her mobile phone charging wire while she slept! didn't seem to harm Zoro but the phone didn't get charged! The cords on window blinds can be another nightmare, Frankie often used to go for them.
