Gus had his echocardiogram today
and unfortunately he indeed has HCM. He is in congestive heart failure. His left ventricle is too thick to relax enough to fill with blood. He got started on some new medications. The drive alone today (total of 5 hours) really wiped him out. The prognosis is poor. Doctor said he may die in 3 months to 1 year. I am trying to keep this in perspective. This is not a child. This is a cat, but my heart is breaking. We will make his remaining days full of love and keep him comfortable. I want another raggie kitten someday but my husband thinks that this might happen again and he doesn't want to go through this again. Love to all Judy and Gus

RE: Gus had his echocardiogram today
Hi Judy,

This wasn't what I expected to see, when I read the subject line. I am so, so sorry. You don't need to explain how you feel about him, I have 2 children, but the loss of a pet can be difficult, so give yourself plenty of time to grieve the news.

This is a time, I am at a loss for words, I am so sorry for Gus, your family, and your breeder.

You and Gus have been in our prayers, and will stay in them.
Hugs to you.
Stormi

Sad RE: Gus had his echocardiogram today
Judy,

Sorry to hear this terrible news. Fortunately Gus is with you and hopefully your times together will be filled with joy and contentment.

It is impossible to predict the future but I would insist that the cats that produce a kitten are DNA HCM tested negative.

Good Luck,

Gail

I am so very sorry for you. I adopted a kitten last year and she had FIP and died within a week of the first symptoms, and I cried and cried over her. It is possible to get so attached so very quickly. I am new but I have been reading previous posts and have followed your anticipation about getting Gus and I just ache for you and your little one. You are in my thoughts and prayers as you endure this horrible ordeal. I am so, so, so, sorry!

I'm so sorry to hear your baby has HCM. It is a devestating illness.

It would be beneficial to have him DNA tested from WSU. Information can found at testyourcat.com. Dr. Meurs has done alot for the breed and having a test done to a cat that has HCM would be very helpful to the research.

So sorry to hear that news Judy. We are all thinking of you - at least he will know a such lot of love during his time with you. Please give your darling Gus a cuddle from us.

Karen

Judy,
I am so very sorry to hear this devastating news about Gus. All you can do is give him as much love as you can and make his last few months as comfortable for him as possible. My thoughts are with you and your family.

RE: Gus had his echocardiogram today
I am soooo sorry. I recently read an article in the paper about grieving for pets, and it is much harder to deal with then some people can understand. No, he isn't a child, but he is one of God's creatures and you are the only "mama" he has right now. It is very understandable to be upset. Our pet babies are a special part of who we are, and it isn't abnormal to be upset about them when they are sick or leave us suddenly. I hope you find comfort in knowing that you gave him the best love and care you could. Keep us informed because we would need the same support if one of us was going through this. God Bless.
-Cindy.
