Do many of you show your Ragdolls?
I am really excited to start as showing dogs is fun, but cat shows are really interesting! I absolutely had a ball watching the CFA shows in Va, a few weeks ago.

I have shown in TICA and CFA. I dont show alot as I have other time commitments. There are some great cats out there who are not into the show scene and some just love it.
I have been to many shows. I just love showing. I love winning (of course) and I love to talk to other breeders and to the visitors. I want to promote this wonderful breed and I'm always eager to see what the judges think of my kittens.
Purrs
Sylviane, Utsu, Vena, Gig, Bhaku, Cappucci and... the Babes
I would love to have some hints and tricks for grooming and advise anyone wants to give to make a newbie feel more relaxed at a first show.
Thanks in Advance!
Stacy
I show my little raggie boy, Jake.
He had his first show last month.
Being in a show was a lot of fun, its great being able to talk to other raggie lovers and owners all day long. And its a really great atmosphere.
When giving him/her a bath (i learnt this afterwards!) dont put him/her in the water, get a attachable shower hose for your bath tap and put the water on him/her. They like it a lot better.
Cheers,
Cloe

I already have all that set up as I have my own Professional Grooming Salon and Spa since 1991.
I hear that many take the little hairs off the tip of the ears, ei: thinning shears or plucking, to make the ears appear more rounded at the tips. Is this actually something I should do?
As for combing, do I do it with the grain and then against it?
As for shampoos... I hear to bath in Dawn first and then a great quality shampoo. Do you mist with conditioner rather than apply directly?
TIA<
Stacy
Hi Stacy,
I heard that you can pluck the hairs of the top of the ears so the judges the the real rounded shape. I personally think that is cruel so I didnt do it to Jake and dont plan to either.
I combed jake against the way the fur goes when drying him otherwise i comb him the right way.
We bathed jake with Flea Shampoo first than just a dishwashing liquid. We were recommended that and it worked well.
We didnt condition him.
Cheers,
Cloe
I wash Puff Apollo in his first cleaned tiny litter pan with a glycerin soap ( not for show but because he does not groom himself well yet). I towel dry and then brush him going with the grain of fur- never thought of conditioner but he looks great afterwards.. until his next BM. I use baby wipes then.
We show our Ragdolls. Our Wild Bill was a Regional winner last year. He also earned his Supreme at the Ragdoll Congress in Chicago back in March. We have two of our kittens on the circuit this year. The boy Timothy is doing real well.
Our show bath consists of:
Goop on the base of the tail and armpits.
Rinse
Dawn Original mixed with R1F2 shampoo
Rinse
Equiss Microtek instant conditioner
Rinse
Rinse
Rinse
Diluted vineger
Rinse
Rinse
Blowdry using Greyhound combs
This leaves the coat very smooth and soft. I hate clumpy fur!
Thank you everyone!
I am so excited to start showing our boy! I am also very happy to 'meet' some very great people here!
