Hi, we just brought two kittens home from the breeder. we opened up the carrying case in our safe room and one cautiously came out and got used to his surroundings. his sister, pepper though is still in the back of the carrier, afraid to come out. we are just going to let her there and not disturb her and let her come out in her own time. is there anything else we should do?

update 3/31:

Cayenne had one watery eye. I think he was playing a little bit too rough and bumped it somewhere. it's starting to look a little bit better. my fiance put some neosporin on it too and it definitely cleared up some. he's been better since two days ago when we noticed it.

but yesterday, when we were both snuggling with pepper, she got up, walked to the corner and vomited some of her wet food that we fed her!!!!!! it wasn't too much, just a few chunks the wet and some white looking fluid. I could tell she wasn't feeling good since she woke up in the evening, but couldn't figure it out. she kept meowing at me, and even after i fed her, she still meowed. i wish i could understand what they were saying!

Do you guys think we should take them to the vet? Is this just her being upset from the environment change still? we only got them last thursday evening so it hasn't even been a week yet. shes still more timid than cayenne , but they are both playing and getting along fine.
For goodness sakes, pick her (and her littermate) up and give her (them) cuddles. She will likely appreciate being held with her brother. If she doesn't want to be held, then spend time with her brother and talk to her to include her as well. You want to bring her out without making her unhappy. Using a wand can bring both out together to play.
Yes i agree, coax with a play wand to get her out & hold or put both on your lap, talking softly and cuddle with them. If they jump down for more play...your making them feel more at home. They will feel more secure as the days go by with more & more interaction. My female is and was the bravest of the 2, but she also takes longer to come out of hiding when she does get scared.
It seems like just yesterday when we brought Nicholas and Owen home from the breeder. But it has already been nearly four weeks. :-)
We used a feather on a stick toy to get them interacting and playing with us right away. Although, it took about 3-4 days for them to feel comfortable enough to dart around the house we kept the feather/stick toy handy for coaxing them out from under the sofa and up into our laps.
This is such a fun time. It really goes fast.
hi guys thanks for your kind posts. here is an update.

we named them cayenne (white one that iwll turn orange soon) and pepper (black accented one). the safe room is in our office. We tried kitty proofing it as much as possible, but they seem to like some of the computer cables.

pepper is very shy and didn't come out until the morning, but the cayenne came out right away and started playing with the toys.

they are pottying in the litter box and eating food just fine. cayenne is even using the scratching post! pepper is still trying to figure out what is going on and not really playing with anything, just shy but we are able to pet her and pick her up fora short period of time. we can pick up cayenne too, but he just wants to play with his toys.

one major issue right now though we have an omega covered litter box. and after pepper discovered that there is a little perch inside the covered litter box, it's a tray that you roll the used litter on to. they both got in it and started snuggling in it.

we are trying to get it other places to sleep instead . last night they were just sleeping in the carrier which is fine.
here are the pics !

Both kittens are beautiful <3 you must be so happy with those babies!
Really cute babies, it sounds like they are both doing great! My 2 went through a stage where they slept in their carrier! i have always left it out for them so they continue to feel comfortable in it.

Not sure what to tell you about the litterbox shelf! Enjoy your babies.Wink
So sweet! Congratulations on your babies!
How adorable! Awwww they are so cute. Smile
LOVE their names too! What I did with Lacey when I brought her home was set up the safe room and then I put my hand in her carrier and pet her while talking to her softly. I didn't leave her alone and stayed with her, even napping on the bed next to her in her carrier until she was brave enough to come out. Once she felt safe she wanted to explore and play play play! It may take some time to get Pepper comfortable with her new surroundings but just be gentle and patient with her and give her lots of reassurance. It is good she has Cayenne there to help her with the transition into a new home. Smile
They are both so cute and it sounds like you're doing just fine with them. Smile Enjoy their "kittenhood"...goes by so fast!
