When I first got Frankie, July 1, 2010, he peed twice on my down blanket. We took the blanket off and had been using another blanket until the beginning of November. Since then, we put my down blanket back on the bed and now have Frankie and Lacey...neither cat has tried to pee on the bed, so we figured everything was fine. Well...... last night I got into bed and Lacey jumped on (she has never peed or looked like she was going to pee on it) and started digging as if she were in the litter box. I clapped and she stopped and sat down. Less than a minute later, Frankie jumped on the bed and did the SAME thing! Nothing has changed with our bed at all. I just can't understand why after all these months, neither cat did that or peed and then last night they both looked like they were going to. So, since nothing happened, I brushed it off and went to sleep. Around 5:30am this morning, I was woken up to Frankie digging again... and this time I felt around and he peed EVERYWHERE! I just can't understand why he decided to pee after months of nothing. I thought he outgrew it.. we even got a new cover and used the odor neutralizer to cover the scent. It made me nervous that lacey also looked like she was going to, even though she never has. So I immediately brought him to the litter box and put him in and told him NO! then kept the both of them out all night. I don't know what to do...I want them both in my room at night but can't have him peeing, even after months of nothing. HELP!
Sometimes down and the fluff is attractive to kitties, from what I undertand. I would suggest keeping the down comforter off the bed if you want to have the kitties sleep w/ you, just to be safe. Also, with any sudden changes in behavior, a vet check, just to make sure all is ok, may be a good thing. Just my two cents.
I just can't believe he went so long without any problem and then reverted right back to when he was only 13 weeks old! And I'm not sure why the other one was acting the same way when she's never had a problem... ahh its just boggling my mind! I can't get rid of a blanket that cost so much. Sad
Why does it boggle your mind. Down items attract this behavior - and both of your cats are doing it with this particular item - at least after it has been soiled. It is like putting litter on the bed and being amazed the cats use the bed as a litterbox.
If it were me i would just take that down comforter off "i know it's nice to sleep under" we have one on our bed, but the other choice is to not have them sleep with you, but then again they could get up there and pee anytime that they get attracted to it. I'm glad mine don't give a heck about ours. Good Luck Smile

I'm boggled because he went for so long without doing it and the little one has never done it and then last night within a minute of each other, they both started digging on the bed, like something has changed. Neither one of them ever looked like they were sniffing it or interested at all since we put it back on in November. So it was just weird how they both did it last night and then he peed after months of nothing.
We had a cat that any time anything fluffy or soft was out anywhere would piddle on it. So I do think it is just the way it is with them. Needless to say we do not have any on the bed now.

Good luck.
