Hi.
Im not a breeder but thought this section is best for my question.
I have learnt a little bit from other threads but must admit, I dont even know how long the gestation period is for ragdolls which i guess is the same as all cats.
I was just wondering what are good standard times for each period of a ragdolls life before the kitten goes to its new home.
I feel by what I have read so far that I have chosen a very good breeder from whom I have ordered my second raggie.
Our breeder determined the queen was pregnant around the 10th of July08 and our kitten is due to come home some time in Jan09.
Cheers, Paul
The gestation period is about 65 days.
Gestation period is usually around 65 days... but it can happen at 63, or even at 67 days.
Most reputable breeders dont let their kittens leave till they're 12 weeks old because of socialization and shots, and because most kittens are immature mentally and emotionally until around 12 weeks. However its also an individual thing. For example, there are 3 kittens in a litter (Bob, Sally, and Jim). Sally is very independent and is using the litter pan all the time by her self with no accidents, she has weaned herself and she even sleeps by herself at 11 weeks. To me, Sally is ready, but needs her 2nd set of shots first. Bob on the other hand, still nurses (when his mom lets him), has accidents, and cant sleep until he snuggles up against mom, or he will cry until he finds her even though he is the same age as Sally, he might not be ready for another couple of weeks. Jim is in between, he doesnt nurse, and enjoys sleeping by himself and is very independent... however he still has accidents around the house, and he sometimes gets lonely and will cry if left alone. He will be ready at 12 weeks when he gets his 2nd set of shots.
Hope that helps
The majority of Ragdoll gestation is 65 days. I usually send my kittens home at about 12 weeks of age. So, from day of conception it is about 5 months + 1 week until they go to their new homes.
Thanks to all for you information.
Our new kitten is due to be born on the 25th of August, Thats my sons birthday also, so we may get our new raggie earlier than first thought,
So good.
Cheers, Paul
what colour and pattern are you waiting on Paul?
Hi Haylee,
My new kitten is expected to be blue point or possible Blue/Bi-colour,
I would so much love a Bi-colour,
With already having the most beautiful seal I thought a blue would be so nice.
As my seal grows older she is becoming so chocolate too, her dad was a chocolate point.
Our girls new nick name is Chocolate legs, it just came out when I called her the other day.
Cheers, Paul
Hi Paul,
Glad the other breeders have a the same practices as we do.
Smart man. Always check up on what breeders tell you. Unfortunatly not all kitten breeders are as passionate about their cats as we are.
I'm not offended at all and incourage people to do a bit of homework about the breed and the breeders before they purchase a kitten.
