This may seem like a strange question, but I'm stumped!

My 11 month old Lola sometimes leaves a small ball of poop on the floor of my apartment. She has never had a problem using the litterbox -- in fact, if there is poop on the floor, there is a long piece of it in the box.

So she's using the box, but somehow another piece "falls out" of her. She seems a little distressed about it, like she knows it's wrong.

Could it be simply that it catches on her fur and falls off as she walks away? I'd be relieved if that's all it is. I just worry it might be something more serious!

All my cat friends have never had this problem.

Help!

MissLola
Likely a clingon that falls off later. Check to see if her fur is slightly soiled and carefully clip off that part. That should get rid of the fur that is "in the way."
Thanks! Yes, sometimes she has stuff "clinging" to her butt, and a number of times it's been stuck right in the fur and messy. But other times, it's a clean little ball that just gets dropped. Lucky me! Smile

I just wanted reassurance that it isn't something worse, like she can't feel that she's not "done" before she leaves the litterbox, or that it's a behavioural thing. But she's been fine with me leaving and coming back since I got her, and I don't think this is her acting out because she has separation anxiety or something like that.

Cheers,

MissLola
This happens to Winston. At first I thought it was Penelope and her furious digging in the litterbox, but this morning I witnessed it first hand. With long fur comes great responsibility... or something like that. Smile

Happens here too.
It's probably no big deal. Lucky us when they are nice little balls we can easily pick up. If you trim the britches you'll have a bit less to contend with, but sometimes even short haired cats have these. Sometime to do with the (sorry) anus I think. Or... I think sometimes a kitty will try to get out of the box so fast that they take their last little poop with them, LOL.
Yep, I get those nasty dingleberries here too. Simone knows when she has one (Samantha is too much of a lady to ever have one) - and runs hard around fast and furious afterwards apparently to get it to let loose!

Ha! Now that's a funny mental image! Big Grin

Gizmo gets them sometimes too.. -poop nuggets as we call them lol. Ever since we trimmed up his hair in the back I don't recall having seen any.. So I think that's helped. Smile
Happens occasionally in our house too. Sometimes I'll see them still on the cat and clip them off. Trimming that area can't hurt.
