I am so excited there is going to be a ragdoll cat show near where I live in Australia ( i'm in melbourne cat show in dandenong) for the Aussies Smile

In fact there is one on the 10th August and one on the 7th Sept, I have never been to a cat show before and am looking forward to going and meeting like minded people and meeting some breeders and of course seeing some beautiful cats.

When I got milo I did not really have the opportunity at the time to go to alot of cattery's and ask questions - I did alot of research on the internet and was very happy with the cattery where I bought him - he is the apple of my eye next to the kids LOL

I can't wait to see a larger variety in person and hopefully will learn more about this wonderful breed of cat, not really sure what questions I will ask as there is such good information available on this forum any ideas?

I would like to know more about the pros and cons of becoming a breeder the costs and benefits etc more because im curious than actually wanting to be one, then again Im hooked on these cats like everyone else LOL.

Counting the sleeps puuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Hi Julie.
I am so jealous, we havent even had a dedicated Ragdoll show in Adelaide but there were some beautiful raggers at our last cat show amoungst many other wonderful breeds.
I am thinking that dandenong is only 9 hours from Adelaide, excuse to get away maybe?.Dandenongs is so nice too, we might stay at Grampians and pop to the show for the day.
Cheers,Paul
I love Cat shows.....There is one about 40 minutes from my house every November. I went for the first time last year and i cant wait to go again!!! You get a lot of free stuff too ;-) last year i came away with free food, treats and even a cardboard scratching thingy for charlie. The only part i dont like is seeing all the kitties in cages they are trying to find homes for :-(
One of the best ways to break into showing and breeding is to get a top quality alter to show. This will get you the needed experience and will open doors to getting to know other breeders. It's very difficult to get a breeder to sell a whole cat to a unknown person.

We showed our Sundance for a year before getting our first breeding cat. He became a Quad Grand Champion in TICA before we retired him.

There is a alot to learn about breeding and it's very expensive to get started. It's also expensive to maintain. Usually small breeders that have only a few litters year will not make any profits. To us it's stressful at times. We had two litters that consisted of 13 kittens. They were one day apart. This was a bit much at one time. When they are about 5 weeks they had diaherria and we had to bathe them twice a day for about a week. That was a lot of work. Our vet bills last year over $7000. Wellness checks, spay/neuters, DNA tests, Ultrasounds, Blood tests, etc.

Breeding can and does have it's heartbreaks. Losing a kitten is terrible but it happens often. Paying top dollor for a breeding female then have to turn around and spay her for one reason or another. We had to spay two females who never had a litter.

But we love it. It is very satisfying especially when pet buyers come over and ooo and ahhh over the kittens. We are very proud of our cats and kittens and cannot wait to finish getting the cattery built. (Which should be done by the end of August).
We paid $3200 for Shylo (which included breeding rights and the stud services that got her pregnant), and we are spaying her after this litter because she is not really what we're looking for in a breeding cat. She'd be much happier in an adult only home with only one other pet. She is being spayed, then adopted out to one of Angel's kittens' owners because they wanted to get a buddy for their kitten Lars.

We only bred her so that we could justify paying such a steep amount of money for her, and so that we can keep one of her daughters.
can't wait for the show I haven't been this exicted about anything in ages!!!! I will be thrilled just to see more beautiful ragdoll and prehaps learn a bit more about showing them ? It will be interesting to see what sort of information I get - I am hoping that the people will be friendly and open to discussion also if their are promoters there of cat products as well as I am a novice in this world of raggies I really dont know what is expected of a show cat the standards and weather or not the cat has to be unaltered or if it can be spayed neutered? Hope I dont sound like a dinkum poop (dumb blonde) for all you non aussies LOL I suppose you have to start somewhere, certainly everyone who comes into our life and meets Milo is absolutely star struck with his looks and personality and I am thrilled to be able to show him off and promote this wonderful breed.
Hi Julie.
Milo certainly is a very handsom boy, he looks as though he could be my Nikitas brother. Must admit I do love the striking appearance of the seals, I also would be so excited showing my Raggie, Im not sure that my girl would handle the large crowds that well,
Take heaps of pics at show and maybe some vids.
Cheers,Paul
