I am thinking about setting up a 30 gallon aquarium. I miss having fish but am concerned about my cat's safety. Will my aquarium put my cats in danger? Do any of you with aquariums have a problem with your ragdolls trying to harm your fish or do you worry about your cats drinking the water or moving the top and falling in?
We have a small one with a hood on it and they love it. They get on the stand where it is and watch what we call cat television. So yes in my opinion it is safe. It is fun tho to watch them.
I have 5 aquariums, & my cats occassionally leap up on the hoods. We use a squirt bottle to shoo them away, & it has reduced but not made the behaviour go away. So far everyone is okay!
Rusty wants you to know it is just fine!! I would absolutely suggest a cover. I no longer have this aquarium and we miss it!

Meggins, I love that picture of Rusty. So cute! He is beautiful! It looks like the fish are checking him out too! He is gorgeous! I love the rocks in your tank. Do you remember where you got them? I am going to do fancy goldfish and those colorful rocks would look really pretty with goldfish colors. I like that they are on the larger side as well.
I am leaning towards yes on starting up my tank again. I went to my basement and I'm thinking it might be a 20 gallon not a 10 gallon.
We have an aquarium with goldfish. We do not have a cover and Wilbur actually climbs up on the talbe and drinks the water. So I do not think an aquarium is of any danger to your cat.
It's safe and entertaining for the cat. Just make sure it's sturdy and has a lid that will support your cat's weight and the aquarium can't be knocked over by a cat jumping on or off.

Sorry, I have never had an aquarium. I agree with what Laura said.. if it has a good cover that a cat can't open, and it cannot fall, I think it would be fine, but I am no expert for sure. Meg, that picture of Rusty! Oh my gosh, he is soooo kissable!
