Don't get me wrong, i love Oliver's hyper playing, and he does sleep with me, and often (but certainly not all of the time) likes to be held, but he wont ever lay in my lap, so like if i am reading or watching a movie, he wont lay with me! Did your cats become more of lap cats when they got older?
Leaping for a string and holding on...

My 2 are 5 1/2 months and i'm really noticing them getting calmer, and spending time on my lap now. Roxi loves to be laying near me when im watching tv or reading, Bo gets lovey and wont let me watch tv or read, then he will get tired & jump down to sleep. Oliver is just in a really playfull stage right now, he will start to calm down in a couple months.

I will be following this thread with interest, because I would like to hear others' experience with this.
I tend to think that yes, kitties do go through phases and stages while they are growing up, and as kittens and young cats, the name of the game is PLAYTIME!
I have heard (and I am hoping!) that they can get more affectionate as they get older. I'd sure love it if my 2 scalawags would turn into lap cats!!!
He he, look at him jumping up!!! I can't help, as I've never had a full Ragdoll! (Yet!)
They definitely calm down. Jake used to never sleep on my bed, and only liked being held for short periods of time when he was a kitten. He is just over 2 and a half now and he sleeps on my bed curled up next to me every night, loves cuddles and has an amazing flop! He has always loved tummy rubs and belly ups, but if you try to pick him up now it takes a lot of effort as he just flops and falls out of your fingers LOL I have to say I much prefer adult ragdolls to kittens, I don't know whether I'd get a kitten again. Too naughty and not cuddly enough!
Neither of my boys fit in my lap, so I can't help there...
I've noticed that since Maisie has become an only cat (moved away from Parents and their cats) she has become a LOT more needy, she cries when she is alone and always is one step behind me. We are getting her a sister asap but it does make us feel very loved lol

I hope that as they get older they do get more affectionate, as you can never have too much. My two girls are completely different, Snowdrop is very affectionate and always has been, she will chose to sit on your lap sometimes, and I can also pick her up and put her on my lap and she loves cuddles, kisses and grooming, she spoils me and I love it! I am just hoping she stays that way. Coco is completely different and isn't really affectionate, it's a slow process with her and I am training her to be more affectionate with treats and I'm happy to say she does seem to be getting better! I think she s learning a lot from Snowdrop. Coco is more timid, but she is very needy and likes to be with me all the time. Snowdrop is so confident and not so needy and will happily be on her own.
I think as long as you keep putting Oliver on your lap and carrying him and giving treats he'll be fine, and he will calm down and mellow out with age anyway. He is everything a kitten should be at that age, just scrummy!!

Yep , we feel if we had gotten 1, he or she would have been alittle lonely! but now the 2 follow us around, but also have their own time together.
I wonder if part of it depends on personality too. Katie acts so dignified and has to be in the mood to play now that she is 7.5 months, while Dexter is always up for play at 4.5 months. I see Katie getting more "mature" but something tells me that even when mature, Dexter will maintain much of his playfulness.
Thanks so much everyone for all of your input! It is making me feel a lot better
