What is the reason that some ragdolls go so limp. I know its genetic in the breeding but what is it. When Bo turns to jello, it amazes me, his legs seem like they could just bend any which way!Big Grin
I suppose all cats technically could go limp, they just don't because they are always on their guard, but with ragdolls they trust you so much and don't worry about anything so they flop.... maybe there is more to it that that but it might just be because they are so laid back.
Good question ~ I've been wondering this too. Obviously Ragdolls live up to their breed name, with the way they go so limp. When I pick Phoenix up from the floor, he is so limp and it's especially noticeable when he is in a lying down position, whether he is flopped or laying normally. He literally just hangs there as I am picking him up.....so loose & limp that's it's hilarious. When I'm carrying him around, I can flip/turn him over into a flop (holding him like a baby in my arms), and he's the same way then too. It could not be cuter!!!
Thanks for your input Sunday Rose! after i wrote the thread, i thought Oh that is probably a dumb question, but iv'e had cats all my life & havent seen it to this extent, but these are my first ragdolls! The thing is Roxi will flop & roll but Bo is the one who as i said turns to jello, and it seems when he purrs and gets lovey its at the max, so i was wondering about it, thats all.Smile
I like Grace's explanation Smile
I've wondered that also...These Ragdolls really are different from other cats. When I tell people that, I don't think they really believe me. Not all cats are independent and aloof! And some of them really are floppy!
Hi CARagMama, no problem because I really wonder why they are like this too. :-)

Another thing I've noticed is how kissable Phoenix is. lol Seriously, he loves to be kissed and he kisses back. He takes his paws and puts them on each side of my face and pulls me in for lots of kisses. How cute is that!! So snuggly and lovable....my heart just melts at how precious he is. I thought of this because of your description of Bo Bear getting lovey to the max.....so cute.

And Phoenix is my first Ragdoll too....they are such a great pedigreed cat!
Oh, that description of how Phoenix gives you kisses is so cute! My Roxi girl, also loves kisses..when she is in a loving mood, she has a very petite little face, and i kiss her nose, cheeks ect..and she purrs with her little mouth open alittle, i love it!
Funny because when she was a little kitten, and i would give her kisses, she looked freaked out, like i was going to eat her. LOL
I love floppity Raggies! Gunther is the absolute floppiest of my three. He is sometimes hard to pick up because he just slides right out of your hands almost. Finn is limp as well but only likes to be held for a little while. He's more of a snuggler when you're laying down. Baz is so solid and doesn't get very floppy when you pick him up. He doesn't like to be held anyways.
CARagMama....your little Roxi is a doll! And that's so sweet how she likes mama's kisses, too!
Lily, Gunther sounds like Phoenix. It is tricky to pick them up when they are that floppy. lol
