We let our kittens have free run of our house with the exception of our finished basement. We have a home gym down there and a lot of expensive equipement plus I don't want them near the furnace etc.
When we are not home, we do close all the bedroom doors as long as there are no cats in there and I only allow them in the office if I'm home, otherwise I remove them and shut the door. Other than that, they have free run of the house.
When did you let your kittens roam free in your homes? Right away? We took a week or two to slowly introduce them to new rooms and kept reminding them of where their litter boxes were.
My girls have access to all of the house except my husband's office. It has always been off limits since it's the one place he can go and be cat fur free.
Yes our babies own the house and we are allowed to dwell inside, as long as the food bowl is constantly filled and the litter tray is regularly cleaned

They basically have free reign when they learn where the litter tray is.
The cats have free reign of our house except for the rooms that I don't control, being those of my two teen kids. I wish it was otherwise but it seems that the trail from their rooms to the dishwasher is daunting on occasion and sometimes it takes a few days for a dish of leftover whatever to make it out of their room... yuck! So except for Saturdays (the mandated inspection day, where it's no clean room...no going out) then I wouldn't want the cats in there!
LOL! Great thread. I'm with CandyKiss, my boys go anywhere and everywhere, althoooooough I have to say there is a measure of appeal to a "fur free" zone like Theresa's hubby's office!
Except for the kitchen counters and the dining room table, our darling raggies have their run of the house!

Run of the house. However, the Garage which is attached to the house they can only go out in when I know I will be home for a while so it's like a treat on the weekends for a few hours. Only other exception is now that it's winter I've closed the doors to spare bedrooms and bathroom but no one is using them so the cats don't mind. If I do enter one of these rooms they are welcome to come in with me.
They've each had run of the house within 48 hours of arriving at my place.
Well I did everything I wasnt suppose to do in the begining. Within seconds I put Charlie down on the floor. He met the dogs, they figured it out, and he has had and OWNED the whole place since the first micro second. He is not allowed on the counters and my dog Tyson always tells on him whenever he sneaks up there.

I'm like you Lexi - although I was quite certain of my dogs being good

what a clever dog your Tyson - although Charlie probably thinks he's a spoilsport LOL
My babies have free run of the house - except for the basement and the laundry room (the only places where I can store things that are considered not save for curious cats)
When my kitties were babies, they had restricted access to the house for about 2 weeks until they learned where the food dish and litterbox places were. After that they had access to pretty much anywhere. Now that they are 5, 6 & 7 years old, they have complete roaming access to anywhere in the house except our finished (with a floor instead of rafters) walk-in attic unless we're in there. They go absolutely nuts if there is any closed door that they cannot see behind. They just have to know what's behind it at all times.
For only the first day I kept Phoenix in the master bath/bedroom area.
Since then he has full access to the whole house except for the garage and the furnace room. He definitely wants to go explore those areas though.....it's the curiousity thing (what fun lurks behind those doors?) taking over I'm sure. lol
Although he has full access to all of the house, he is always where I am, which is so wonderful.
