Hi Everyone,
I am new here and posted in the Introductions section.

I am getting a darling seal colorpoint boy (dob 7/4/10) who will come home with me Oct 1st. And now of course, I have decided he needs a companion kitty so he won't get lonely while I'm at work. He does have a male seal mitted litter mate who is adorable and available. BUT, I would like to have a male and a female. So, there is a darling little girl (dob 7/28) seal mitted from a different breeder in a different state.

Of course, getting the boy litter mate is the safe bet. And I don't want to regret getting the girl. I am hoping they will get along - so close in age. Girlie would come home toward the end of Oct, so little boy will be king of the house for a couple of weeks.

According to the breeders, the boy does have a female litter mate that he plays kindly with. He is outgoing/playful/affectionate, but not aggressive; the little girl has several brothers and is doing fine with them, is affectionate.

Can anyone share their experience with male/female pairings - especially from different litters? I need advice soon because the girl's breeder needs an answer from me ASAP !!! Help!
Thanks to all,
Kait
All combinations work and you should get the kittens you want.
I have all males from different catteries so I am not an expert on female/male pairing. As kittens there shouldn't be an issue and along as the introduce is done slow and correctly. Best of luck and keep us posted
Thank you Jan. I think I just need a lot of reassurance that I will not be making a mistake, or risking harmony in the household!
I have male and female from different breeders and it has work fine they love each other and there a year apart in age.
I have to agree with JanH.
Our raggie kitten Dexter is three months younger than his "sister", calico kitten Katie. The first couple of weeks was slow going but they are happily the best of friends now and are great with each other.
Couple of things to consider:

1. Personality of kittens and compatability is the most important.
2. Two from the same litter will be best of friends of course but another litter and different ages will work well if the introductions are done right.
3. If you buy two at the same time do you get a discount?
4. Why rush to buy two now as you could always add one in 6-9+ months and all will also work out fine. They dont need to be very close in age to be buddies. I just placed a 3 year old girl in a household with an existing 1 year old and they bonded in just 3 days.
I think your plan of the little boy and the little girl is a good one. Get the kittens you want and I always think they're happiest when they have a playmate. I got my first two 13 days apart and they were best friends from the second they saw each other. Congratulations to you!
In the past i always had gotten my domestic kittens at different stages, and they never were all that close, but not enemies either. This time i decided to purchase 2 littermates - male & female, who were already kind of paired off as friends LOL, and have just loved every minute of watching them play, snuggle & groom each other. Had i not purchased a 2nd ragdoll, i would have adopted a kitten from a shelter but who knows if they would have been close. Most of the people on this forum seem to have had good luck either way. Have fun with your new babiesSmile
Thanks everybody for the great comments and suggestions. I have to make my decision by Monday!!

Gail - I have asked the breeders all about the personalities (and am aware that they will continue to change a little as they develop), and trying to make sure girl kitten is not to shy. You asked about a discount for buying two - when I was considering the boy kitten and his brother, the breeder only offered a $25 discount. I did think about waiting a while to get a second kitten, but feel the bonding for girl/boy from different breeders will probably go easier if done when they are very young. And I only work 3 days a week (nurse) but those are 13-14 hour days, so the boy will probably really need a companion.

To everyone with pix of your Ragdolls - they are so gorgeous! Really, I can see myself becoming an addict. My family certainly thinks I am obsessed now!
