I have jumbo size litter boxes. I bought the larger sized boxes when both Gs started kicking litter everywhere from their large size litter boxes. Now the Gs no longer do that. Scooping out these litter boxes really is hard on my back. I am sure I am not the only one who has ever had to deal with this. I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what I can do to make the process less....painful. Lately, I have been having more problems-even staying out of work a couple of days due to it.
I wonder if maybe elevating the litter box on a stable, lower type table would be an option, that way you wouldn't have to bend as much, you could pull a chair up beside it and sit while you scoop. Hope that you get some relief and are feeling better soon!
Consider trying a smaller covered box.
That's a good idea dextersmom! Have you also tried the 2-tray litter system? I haven't but from the sounds of it, it involves more shaking and less scooping

My litter boxes are raised like described by dextersmom - because Kay would not stay out to steal the kitty poo's - and I find it a lot better to scoop them too

Covered boxes work well for me and Solo. You can always remove the flap if you are worried the Gs won't use it. Solo figured out the flap after pushing him inside of it a few times, and giving him a treat for figuring out how to come out
We also have an uncovered litter box under a sink. With that one being in a cupboard, I just vacuum out the kicked around litter every other week or so. Works out well!

I like this idea! I've got a bathroom wardrobe closet that I won't have anything in but a few old coats. I can put one of the litter boxes in there and keep any stray litter to a minimum. I would like to make the under-sink thing work, but there's no place in my house where it would be practical. I'm learning a lot from you, between the training videos and this tidbit. Thanks!
In regards to the original post, doesn't anyone make a longer handled scoop? It seems a fairly common issue and raising up a litter box is not always a practical solution.
Cheers!

Good idea about the long handle scoop Rod, just googled and there are all kinds of them available.
What type of litter are you using? Worlds best litter weighs less than clay litters. Maybe try a lighter litter?
Sorry to hear you are having back problems.

I hope your feeling better real soon.
