I just got the news that my nephew decided to blow off his full ROTC scholarship and go into service. He is in San Diego now going through boot camp. The hard part is that he signed up for the infantry division and will ship out to Afghanistan early Nov. Please say a prayer for Brannon, and anyone who has personal experience I would greatly appreciate information on your experience.
My entire family is planning to attend his graduation in San Diego mid October, then he will fly to the Bay Area to spend a little time with us before he is deployed.
My gorgeous nephew
Brannon and my niece Kristan
Thank you!
Prayers for Brannon being sent with as much positive energy as possible. Any you are right, he is one handsome young man!!! (Your neice is a cutey too!)
We and the kits send our prayers! Hope he keeps safe and will return soon.
Prayers for him and all of our service men.
He blew off a full ROTC scholarship???!!! Its sooooo much easier (and way more money) as an officer, I bet he'll wish he didn't soon especially as infantry, really long deployments. As an E-5 (equivalent of a sergeant in the army) with 6 years in, I was making half as much as an O-2 with 2 years in...ugh! That always stuck in my craw a bit. Does he know where in Afghanistan yet? Tommy's best friend is over there right now, so I could get a bit of the scoop on it if he is going somewhere close.
Hope he has an easy deployment and comes back safe and sound. He'll probably enjoy it quite a bit, really kind of fun when you don't have a family. I had a great time on deployments (even in Iraq) mostly because of the camaraderie and friendships you make. Not a fan of it now of course (Tommy is gone for 2 months to school, ugh). You know you can PM me anytime if you need extra info about specific or general military stuff

Thank you so much for your support and prayers Elizabeth, Jo and T, it means a lot..
Thank you Jenny, I was hoping you would chime in.. ~hugs~. Yes, a FULL scholarship at Prairie View in TX... he would have entered the Marines as an officer. It's always been his dream to be a Marine, he just couldn't wait I guess. It caught us all off guard and we are trying to mentally adjust.
I will definitely pm you once I know more.. and I will certainly have questions. I've been in tears on and off all day, it's so scary. It's good to know that you had a good experience on your deployments, Brannon really does enjoy his friends and the camaraderie he has experienced thus far. I just hope he comes home safe and sound..
You are right about the gorgeous part! I know this is a scary time for you and your family. Will certainly be praying for his safety.
