I think that in Austrailia the "R" stands for royal?? Here in Canada, some Humane Societies and some SPCA's are kill shelters and some are no-kill. It depends on the community. Rescue groups are often the best way to go if you can find one with availability. Sadly you are right about the black colouring, it's the same thing for dogs too, and they don't have to be all black, even a black face mask makes them less adoptable. I hope that the kitten that Dannilou found has a chance at family life Smile

Me too.
yes unfortunately it is a shelter that kills.
i am not supporting that it does this but there is no where else he can go. as far as im aware there arent any rescue groups in my town i will ask them tomorrow...im really scared for the poor guy.

and the r does stand for royal.
I hope he finds a new home soon Danni. Did your neighbours not want to keep him if he looked like theirs who disappeared a year ago?

Black cats can be just as loving as cats of any other colour, apparently the dislike is a primitive issue referring back to the black cat's link with witches. It's bizarre really that something so silly can affect a cat's life.

I found this in my rescue links Dannilou, I don't know if they are close to you but they are in my no-kill file for Austrailia, they are located in Cairns but apparently cover Queensland. http://www.catrescue-qld.com/
no they arent near me.
its to late he is at the shelter.

and jane our neighbours moved out 6 months ago so im sure he will find a home. he is the most loving cat i have ever met.
Crossing fingers and toes for the little fella. Thanks for doing what you could to help him Dannilou Smile
Poor little guy, it's great you took him for a chance at another life. Hoping all goes well for him. My very first kitten was black and they're always my faves at the pet shop (yes I still torture myself Sad )
Most of my friends are Halloween artists, and they consider black cats good luck!! Hopefully he will find the purrfect human!
