I know that it can be difficult to tell if an adult cat is sick. What are the signs of stress to look for in the adult cat? Also, if one cat is stressed and the other is not, can I still use a product such as a Feliway (sp?) plug-in.

Gabby used to love it when I had company. Now, she will run and hide. I have been home today with a bad back. I had paid someone to come clean my house today. When the housekeeper arrived, Gabby spent hours hiding under a floor cabinet.
Good for Gabby. I worry that Ragdolls will greet intruders and be taken or let out. I would rather they hide. I would not view it as a sign of dangerous stress. The change may be meaningful, but cats can respond to some people differently than others. I could understand that cleaning activity by a newcomer might cause hiding faster than a calm guest sitting on a chair. Sometimes one can identify causes by thinking back to what was happening when the behavior changed.
I hope Gabby is ok, she could just be shy of new people - if she wasn't shy before then I don't know why she would hide now, unless she had a bad experience in the past. Feliway should be safe to use I would think. Is she still affectionate towards you? Merlin always runs and hides when guests come but he's the biggest smooch with me and Pete. I hope she comes round soon.
You know these guys can sense things more than we give them credit for. Solo always greets people at door, and animals alike. He knew right away when I tried fostering a non-cat-friendly dog to hide. It was so strange, but it did turn out that this dog wanted to eat him and Solo knew that before the dog had even seen him. As soon as the dog found a new foster home, he was back to his good old self, and still likes dogs! He has met new ones with no problem.

Perhaps Gabby is more freaked out about the tools and things from the cleaning? Feliway would be fine to use even if neither of them were stressed. It is simply pheromones in the air to help kittys agree that your home is a safe place for cats.

Gabby has become more affectionate to me in the past few weeks. So has Gabriel. When I had both the Gs speutered, the vet gave me three doses of pain medicine for Gabby. The doses were in syringes that I could put in Gabby's mouth. I asked my father to help me give her the medication. I wonder if Gabby is still remembering that and might think that a visitor to the house is coming to give her medicine.
Maybe precious Gabby is remembering that time with the meds. Actually it kind of scares me the way Phoenix runs to greet people at the door. It's safer when they hide til they know who it is.....meaning someone they already know and can trust.
