Picked up my new kitten a few days ago. She seems healthy and happy except one of her eyes seems a little runny. (He breeder sent antibiotics home and thought it could be from the stress of being seperated from her siblings. Is this possible?
The stress of a move can cause a Upper Respiratory Infection to break. Be careful about self medication. You should have a wellness exam by your own vet soon after bringing a kitten home in any event. You can ask about the proper response to any symptoms then. Based on your description, it is not something to worry about, but the symptoms do justify a vet visit. (If the symptoms were seen by or discussed with the breeder's vet and the vet prescribed the meds, then you can proceed with the meds and see your vet if they do not get better. However, since a wellness exam is due with your vet anyway, you can ask then.)
I just noticed this post here too, so I replied twice.
A few days after I brought Ruby home, she developed a runny eye too. I took her to the Vet and they said sometimes the stress & new environment can cause this. She was given an antibiotic to give orally once a day and also an eyedrop 3x's a day & she was fine 2 days later.
We've had her over 3 weeks now and we are just crazy about her! She is so much fun and I can't get over how cute it is that she follows me around everywhere! Congratulations on your new "baby"!
Thanks so much for your advice. She's seeing the vet today just to be sure. Lord knows we don't want anything to be wrong with our little angel
Serena just visited the vet. She's very healthy except for the eye problem. 4eems she has an upper respritory vial infection that could be caused by stress. He gave her oral antibiotics and triple antibiotics for her eyes. Said it should clear up in a few days. Poor little baby.
