I stumbled on this great singer with a sweet soulful voice only to sadly discover she's already passed away. She was only 33 years old. She has an old fashioned quality about her and I think here voice was amazing so I bought six of her nine albums this morning. That's not something I've done with any other artist. Maybe it's partly as her story is so sad.

This is her on Amazon....

Oh my goodness, I youtubed to listen to her voice and I can see why you bought so many. So young, so talented and so tragic.
I didn't even get to you tube yet. I found here on bing and then spent about an hour (or more) listending to song snippets comparing her albums on amazon thinking I'd pick the one or two I liked best. It backfired, as I found I liked and wanted almost every one of them. I also checked out her website. The majority of her albums were issued posthumusly. Her website isn't even complete as she was lost so early in her career.
Laura, You're right she has a beautiful voice. I think I'll have to buy some of her music also. What a shame to have lost her so young. Randy

Fascinating - an all american girl virtually ignored here. It was the UK that discovered her and made her a star. ABC news cites her music there as hitting the top of the charts with five of her CD's.

She is my all time favorite singer. Hands down. She has been my idol through my singing. I found her while I was batteling cancer and she was such an inspiration. I would have loved to had met her as she was born and raised right in my area. I wish I could have met her, heard her sing in person, even if just once. I sing almost all of her songs that I can get my hands on as to backing tracks, which are VERY hard to find. Some of her selections are so haunting to hear- esp the songs performed at the "live at blues alley" show- at a time I do not believe she knew she had cancer. The songs that remain, although few still are proof to her greatness. To have such raw talent, no effects, no 'fluffing'... that is what we should seek in a singer. She had such an ease about her. Her voice was so angelic. There was no other who could compare to Eva.
I'm so glad you guys like her! I was so immediately taken by her voice - which is unusual for me. Three of her CD's arrived last night while I was out so I'm going to listen today. Randy thanks for the news link - it was great!

From what I read she had hip pain but thought it was from painting her murals and she learned about the cancer very shortly before her death, which was before most of her CD's were published. Her Live at Blues was her last concert just weeks before her death.

I don't think I've ever heard her name before last week.
Over here in the UK Eva has been very popular for some time. Every time there is a show like the X Factor, if a girl sings Over the Rainbow she is almost always compared to Eva. I know I first heard of her about 5 years ago so I really don't understand why she wasn't so popular in America.
'Songbird' is one of my favourite songs sung by Eva Cassidy

As Jane says, she has been here in the UK for quite a while

Great voice, sad she was gone too soon Sad
We saw her in concert years ago. The voice of an angel. It's sad so many people discovered her after she'd passed. I hate cancer. Sad

I love her versions of "You Don't Know Me" and "Autumn Leaves". Songbird is probably my favorite album of all time (along with Tapestry by Carole King).

So nice to know that others love her as I do. Smile
