Hi shoe lovers!

I know I've started a thread on shoes before on here.. but I just can't find a shoe forum that has people on there that are anywhere near as nice as you guys! I know there is a few, maybe a lot, of you raggie owners who love shoes so I'm hoping you can help me :-)

I bought my first pair of heels February this year, so about 6 months ago. They are 11cm (about 4.3 inches) stilletos with very pointed toes. I realise now that this was a silly first pair of heels to buy. At the time I thought it'd be best to start that high and once I could walk in them, it'd be great because I would be able to walk in all of the smaller heels. I also didn't particularily want small heels so bought tall ones straight up.

I have practiced, practiced and practiced walking in them but have only worn them out once. I am finding them extremely hard to walk in. It isnt really the height part, but mainly the pointed toes and stilleto! I had them fitted and got a size 6 (they're a pump) but they slip off my heels and I think this might be why I can't walk in them. I also have very narrow feet.

In June I bought a 2 inch pair of heels, these ones are wedge boots, and I could walk in them straight away. It was like walking in flats.

Do you think its the height, the heel (wedge vs stilleto), the fact I can wear thick socks rather then tights or because they're boots they can't slip off?

One of my friends bought a pair of 4 (maybe 5) inch wedge heels and could walk in them straight away.

I want to buy a pair of heels for summer that I'd be able to wear all the time, and I'm thinking a wedge. There is two pairs I like, one is 14cm (6 inch) and the other doesn't have a height but I'm guessing its about the same. One is backless but has straps that go around the ankle (see picture here) and the other is this one.

Which one would you suggest would be easier to walk in? Or what do you guys recommend? As I said I've only had heels for about 6 months and although I can walk in my 4-5 inch stilletos, its only for short amounts of time (and they're very uncomfortable) but I could live in my 2 inch wedges. I'm thinking its more to do with the heel then the height.. but I would love your suggestions from those of you who are shoe obsessed like me! Smile

Cheers,
Cloe
wedges are very different to proper heels.
stillettos u need balance and strength. i wore prob 5-6 inches and the balls of my feet were soooo sore after...
i shall give the secret trick to stillettos are you ready???

find heels with a platform on the toes too because it evens out the height and take the strain off the balls of your feet
these are one of my most comfy heels plus the pictures dont do them justice really. they are bright red, my boyf calls them my hooker heels hahah

I agree with Danni about the platform on the toe part. I used to love shoes and had lots of heels, but I never could walk in the stilletos very well. I always needed the heel to be a little bigger for more balance - not much, but just a little would make all the difference. Then I got old and the feet got tired, so now I usually don't go over 2.5 inches for a heel. This is the "old woman's" version of a stilleto:

I actually liked the strappy shoes you picked out for summer, they just look more summery.

Exactly! I'm a shoe nut and I'm short so I wear heels daily and have been for years. For me it's the higher the better and I prefer stillettos to wedges. The gel inserts are also wonderful. If you want a good high shoe, I find that Guess are very easy to wear and need no breaking in for me regardless of the style... good luck!
You need to gradually build up, because it takes foot and ankle strength to balance and stay balanced. Also, you need to pick a style that works with your own foot shape-- some feet can handle pointed toes or narrower toe styles, some can't. Also, don't wear anything with more than a 3 inch height difference (maximum!!!) between the ball of your foot and your heel-- so anything higher must have some sort of a platform toe. But every foot is different in terms of arch shape, strength, and flexibility, so you have to go with what your foot can handle.
Finally, on another note, I know I'm going to sound like your mom, but be age appropriate. If I were to see 14 or 15 year old girls (or even 16 or 17 year olds) in (for example) 4 inch heels it would definitely strike the wrong note... I'm searching for the right words to express that, but I'm sure you know what I mean even if you don't agree.
I love the wedge with black and white fabric that ties in the back, so cute! Wedges are definitely much easier to walk in than stilettos because of the ankle strength and balance required. My highest stilettos are at 4 inches and I can't wear them at all now. I broke my ankle a few years ago and I just don't have the ankle support anymore, but wedges are still a piece of cake.

Beautiful shoes Danni!!
Sarah (WinstonandOlliesmum) has given you some very sound advice Cloe, don't try to go too high too soon or you will permanently damage your feet. The shoes you have already bought sound like they are too big if they are slipping off of when you walk, can you buy heel grips over there? They may help. Wedges are always easier to balance on as there is more support for your feet, the tie ones look lovely, but expensive!!

Danni, those red shoes are really pretty.
I think the wedges with the tie will be easier to walk in. They look like they tie around the ankle, so they will be held to your foot a bit better?
I like the look of the tony bianco ones better too - more summery Smile but... you might find the other nude ones can be worn a bit more (in winter aswell perhaps?)

I love big heels too - but the balls of my feet always feel bruised after a night out. I'm only a little older than you (im 21), and i do understand what everyone is saying by choosing something age appropriate... but to me, it doesnt sound like you are going to be strutting around school or casually on the weekends in them. I think for a special occasion/party they would be fine/appropriate.

I always find boots easier to walk in than stilettos too (no matter what the height) i think its just because they hold onto your feet a bit better.
Cloe - the wedges with the black ties are adorable but will be much harder to keep tied, and will definitely be more uncomfortable. All I can say about the heels is practice, practice, practice until your foot becomes more comfortable in them. Having said that, most people I know wear their drop dead gorgeous stilettos all the while crying inside-"when can I take these off"!! Pointed toes are a whole other story. Next pair of stilettos you buy- try walking on them in the store, or if you internet shop, walk with them only on your carpet so you can return them.

I have shoes in the closet I never wear anymore but can't get rid of because they are so pretty to look at!! Wearing them has always been a different story!
Danni- LOVE THE BLACK HEELS! Super cool.
they are arent htey judy i saw them and i was in love...i love all the little flower type things i think they r amazing. thats why i never buy from shoe chains and only boutique shoes stores. you can find such beautiful shoes.
