Hello everyone,

I am planning on adopting two ragdoll kittens from the same litter and a friend recently warned me if I got two kittens at the same time, they would bond more with each other and ignore me. Is this something I should be worried about and if so, how do I prevent it?

Thanks,
Pamela
This was a concern of ours as well, but experience has proved us wrong. Littermates are a great choice and they will both bond with you as they would otherwise. In addition, their introduction to your household will be easier because they will have the familiar company of each other.
Hi....congratulations!

It's great that you're getting two at once. That will save you from deciding later on for a playmate for the first one. And, usually that's what happens! LOL

I believe if you play with them together they will be close to you as well. That happened with us. We've had so many toys; some were/are hits and some were misses, but you'll figure it out.

Can't wait to see pics!!!
Getting littermates is an awesome idea. I'd say that the only concern about keeping them isnt that they'll only bond with each other, its that they'll have separation issues later in life if they for some reason need to be re-homed separately. Not to be a downer on it tho. I am all for getting littermates because the transition between breeder and owner's home is less of a lonely thing for them and because they will not get lonely when you have to leave them for work or whatnot... they'll have each other. Also because watching littermates play is so much fun lol.
Upset at the loss of another cat is as likely with non-littermates as not, so that is not a reason to avoid littermates. The closest pair we have had were Siamese males who were a bit less than a year apart in age - and the survivor was deeply depressed when his best friend died. Although littermates start out more tightly bonded and may well remain that way, they may not be the closest to each other over time in a household of other cats. It is like the relationships between mom and kitten, it may stay as strong or it may weaken.
I think it is wonderful that you are getting two littermates, sometimes I think I should have gotten another Raggie for Cash to play with especially when we aren't home, and my other cats are not interested in any kind of play with him. I also thought about the bonding issue, but since Cash has been home, as a kitten, all he does is play until it is time to go night, night...then he comes and snuggles with me....otherwise, he is wide open with energy to spare....
Congratulations on getting two! I think it's great that they'll have each other when they come home with you. I know Moe was really attached to his brother when we picked him up and sometimes wonder what it would have been like with both of them. Looking forward to seeing pictures. Smile
Thanks for the helpful replies!

I am reassured.

Today is the due date for my kittens. (YAY !!) I'll definitely post pictures when I have some.
