So my boyfriend and I decided to get a one bedroom apartment together since I practically live at his place anyway Big Grin Gizmo and I have been pretty much living here with him since last August.. I do have my own apartment but I don't like it there and I spend all my time here anyway, so It makes sense to just move in together. (Also his one room mate drives us both CRAZY.. but that's another story for another time lol)

So when we move he wants to bring his cat that stays at his parents house, with us.. which I am okay with because she's a good girl and I think maybe her and Gizmo could get along.. So I have read through some of the other threads about introducing a new cat and all that. My plan was to have Gizmo stay in the bedroom with us while we let his cat, Sydney, roam the rest of the apartment and they can sniff each other through the door at first. I'm just worried because the last time Gizmo lived with another kitty, he turned into a completely different cat.. He wasn't as cuddly, he seemed kind of annoyed by the other cat and I think we he just less affectionate. I'm worried the same thing could happen again and I would hate for my bear to shy away and stop giving us the attention he usually does.

I'm just worried and looking out for my baby, I would hate to have him turn into a recluse and not become good friends with Sydney.

Any other pointers you guys could give me to try to make this as smooth of a transition for Gizmo as Possible? He's just such a scaredy cat baby! And I probably enable his behavior by coddling him Haha oh god, what kind of a mother am I?!
I think that while it is a big change in their lives to suddenly have a room-mate of their own kind, I think that the personality change is a bit temporary until the kits reach a comfort level with the other in their space. Katie went from being super affectionate to being a bit standoffish when Dexter first arrived. Within a couple of weeks, she was back to being her cuddley self. Hope that is the case with Gizmo also!
+1 on what's stated above - unless the cats really cannot find common ground and just barely tolerate each other - which you won't be able to tell if you haven't tried - I think their character will come back in time to what it was before meeting.
"I probably enable his behavior by coddling him Haha oh god, what kind of a mother am I?!"

Oh, haha! I do the same with Ophelia! Wink Gizmo is a beautiful cat!

I agree with Dextersmom. It will take some time for Gizmo to get used to the new company.
I can totally understand where you're coming from with this change for Gizmo & you. The only thing I can think of is that you may see Gizmo bonding with the new cat (which is what you want), and maybe spending a bit less time with you....initially. But I've heard it can work out where both cats still spend snuggly bonding time with their owners. I hope this works out well for you! I bet Gizmo will still be your beautiful baby. He's sooooo cute!
If you make sure introductions go at their rate and not at the speed you want then everything should be ok. Just take it easy and let it happen, it may take time but don't worry about it. Good luck Smile
Thanks every one Smile I guess i'm just so used to having one baby around that it's not only going to be a weird transition for Gizmo but for me too. I really do hope that Sydney and Gizmo will become friends, And I secretly hope some of her good cuddling capabilities will rub off on gizmo Big Grin Hehehe. She is such a good cuddler! Gizmo on the other hand only cuddles me very early in the morning when I first wake up (which makes it THAT much harder to get out of bed!). I would love to see them be friends and cuddle with each other and play together. I am definitely going to let them take their time together.. They have met once previously when I first moved here. Gizmo just sat there looking at her and Sydney hissed and walked away! Haha. But that was on Sydneys Turf so I guess it was just her being territorial.

I will keep you guys updated, we're moving in about a week.. So we'll see how things progress once we do Smile
