Daddy to be "Matai": Blue Mitted
Mommy to be "Sadie": Seal Bicolor (due the end of august and already looking quite round!!)
Is it basicaly a 50/50 chance, for blue/seal, and mitted/bicolor's with colorpoint possible as well? Or are stronger genetics in place for certain color and pattern?
TIA
Seals only unless the female carries dilute. In that case, statistically half seal and half blue.
If the bicolor is high mitted, then kittens will statistically be half mitted and half bicolor. No colorpoints.
If either parent was dilute and the cat is a dense color, then the cat carries dilute. One can also tell by what kittens are produced and DNA testing.
ok, so at this late stage in the game, I supposed we wait to see the kittens produced, yes?

I had a girl that I thought was true for seal (did not carry dilute). She had two litters of all seal babies and then with her third litter out popped a little blue girl, so it took that long to know she did carry dilute. If you really want to know you can have her color tested to see if she carries dilute. I always want to know that before I even get a seal kitten (except with this girl I knew I wanted her regardless

. Of course if one parent is dilute you know they carry dilute but when it's a seal to seal breeding you have to color test to know.
A DNA test for the dilute gene is easy to do, you just have to get a mouth swab sample and send it off. Congratulations to Sadie and Matai, can't wait to see their gorgeous little bundles of fur!

I thought you could get colourpoints if the bi-colour is a true bi-colour not a high mitted, mid-high white or high white.

Mid high whites and high whites are not Ragdoll bicolor patterned cats. They have genetically higher white levels.
A "true" bicolor mated to a mitted can produce colorpoint kittens, which is the reason I indicated a high mitted bicolor.
Mid high whites and high whites cannot produce colorpoints with a mitted mate since they each have two White Spotted Genes and each kitten will get at least one WSG.
Jan, by Sadie's pics, is she a high mitted?
