Well I just got home from vacation to find out I can't pick up my kitten this coming week because she was not spayed on Tuesday, she was too small! So now she is scheduled for this coming week. It's good that they are thinking of her health and not going through with the surgery. That's one plus, but now they got me worried.
So now I don't know when I'll be able to pick her up. I took time off of work at the end of the week too, so now I don't know what to do or think???? I'm a bit frustrated!
I thought she was small but her litter-mates were about the same size. She didn't feel skinny, but not plump either when I went to visit 2 weeks ago. Does anyone know how much they need to weigh to be spayed/nuetered?
The minimum weight varies with the vet. It does not mean anything about the health of the kitten. It does not even necessarily mean anything about ultimate size. Big cats can have been little kittens. Even if she is thin, that too can just be a matter of not having an appetite yet, although one does want to work on that, even syringe feeding if needed.
The place I go to requires a minimum weight of 2 lbs for a male and 2.5 lbs for a female. This does vary by vet practice slightly.
I would age the breeder what the weight min is and what the kitten weights so that you dont need to worry or guess.
Does anyone know how long after being spayed can a kitten go to her new home? I'm trying to figure out when I can pick her up. I took days off of work and now I don't think I can switch them, so now when I do pick her up I won't have the time off I wanted.
I'm sorry to heard that you will have the time off without the new kitten! Is not possible to change the time off?
Oh no! That is so sad! It's so hard waiting on the new kitten. I really hope you'll be able to switch your time off days. I'm not sure how long you have to wait after the spay. I know with Dexter he got neutered on a Thursday and I picked him up on Sunday. And if I remember right, I could have picked him up Saturday if I wanted but I was unable to. Let us know what you find out about the kitten and her spay!
I picked Mishka up a couple of days after her spaying, and she was fine. I don't think it takes very long as long as the incision is totally held together with glue. Stitches might take longer.
Hope the breeder has let you know by now when you can pick pretty Molly up. Phoenix came home on the 2nd day after he was neutered.
So excited for you and also sorry about the delay, especially considering you had vacation all set for her homecoming.
