Hope poor little Ruby gets well soon! They are certainly the poo twins Wink It's possible Ruby just has a sensitive tummy/gastro system so please don't blame yourself. At least she's going in the litter tray! Good luck with the vet Smile
Thank you Sunday Rose and Jo Smile

I think you are right on Jo.

We just got back from the vets and she had a bit of a look at a poo sample we took for her (I told her, "we brought you a gift" LOL) and examined Ruby. She told us that Ruby isn't gassy so she suspects she's just got tummy sensitivity and to keep giving her probiotic powder (which I have been giving her) and has recommended we put her exclusively on a dry RC gastro diet for a couple of weeks and see what happens.

I had heaps of questions for her because I am NOT happy with the concept of not feeding Ruby any wet food. But she said it may just be something she gets over and then we can give her her normal food again but until then we have to really restrict her food to the kibble.

I asked her about Flagyl and she told me that it's really mostly used when the stools are frothy and very liquidy (whereas Ruby's have some substance to them apparently) and isn't great to use for kittens. She said that if the problem continues we'd need to get a stool sample and have a pathologist examine it to see if Flagyl should be administered.

We also got her wormed 2 weeks early to make sure that's not the problem.

She's going to call me on Monday and see how Ruby is going.

Thank you everyone for your help and support. <3! Kitty kisses for all Smile
Hmm, I'm pretty sure I've heard of Flagyl being used with kittens here fairly frequently.

I do know of some people who can't feed their cats wet because it does upset their stomachs. It may be that your two are the same. Hope things work out soon and you can put the loose poos behind you.
Awww poor Ruby. Even if you have to use a dropper, make sure that she is drinking because dehydration can really throw her out of whack. Poor lamb, I hope that she is feeling better soon!!!
I hope that she starts to feel much better soon!!!
Sorry to hear Ruby is so poorly. Coco went through a similar stage. She prefers wet food, but she can not have just wet, I always mix wet and dry together and that has improved things loads. I hope what the vet suggested works and she gets better soon.
Teresa, I'm not sure about the Flagyl. I think she really just wants to try the easiest way first and see if that's enough to get her poos to normalise before we treat her with any type of drugs. What mystifies me is that she was having good solid poos on the food I was feeding her when suddenly she just got the really bad diarrhea.

Dextersmom, yes definitely, I'm taking note of when I catch her drinking water and luckily she has been, but the RC Gastro Intestinal food has something called s/o that is meant to stimulate the cats to drink more water (I hope it's not salt...LOL). I hope it helps to get her to stay hydrated but I will keep an eye on her. Thanks for the advice Smile

Diana, thank you so much! I hope so too.

Louise, That is actually a really good idea about mixing the wet and the dry and I think I will have to try that once Ruby stabilizes. I am glad that Coco is doing better, too...how scary all that business was....!
