accidentally step on your raggie?????

I think I step on one of mine at least once a day, though I try hard not to! It's so hard with raggies, they sneak up on you like ninjas! Smile
O YES!!
When ours were wee little my husband and I
would walk around dragging our feet in fear of steeping on one.

They do have away of just dropping in front of you
I think I have stepped on Charlee's tail one time in the 7 months that we have had her. DH is home all day with her and has stepped on her quite a few times. She has a terrible habit of flopping on the kitchen floor as if to dare us to step on her! Smile
Yes, either step on them or I also haven't known they were on the bed with me and rolled over on them, or kicked them in the bed!
*phew* and I thought we were the only bad parents who accidently stepped on their babies paws! Some are better at getting underfoot than others, Guinevere is a pro at tripping us up! There's only been a few occasions when we've actually stepped on them (no damage done of course), usually we dart to the side, the front, the back, anywhere where there's clear floor... and usually there is a raggie darting underneath so we do a little dance until either we fall over or they take off somewhere else!
This is deadly dangerous, particularly since they often will come toward your feet with their head down and even an adult cat is at great risk in that circumstance. When you hear them coming, just stop and pick them up if nothing else works. You can also use a can of coins to startle them or a water pistol if they find that unpleasant.
I don't think it makes us bad raggie parents! I think that accidents happen and hopefully noone gets hurt! I find that even if I step on them the tiniest bit they usually sound an alarm long before we can do any real damage thankfully.

I hate going up and down the stairs with them....especially carrying laundry etc...Jamas will stop right in front of me on the step and I've nearly lost my balance and fallen to avoid stepping on him. LOL

Jan, I think we're all very very aware that it's dangerous...it's not like we're walking around intentionally stepping on them. I feel terrible when it happens Sad The trouble is often I don't even hear them but suddenly they're there at my feet (especially if I'm washing dishes). So I always try to keep an eye out for them but it can only take seconds from an all-clear to suddenly, kitten...!

LOL Teresa......!!! Ruby's fallen off the bed too. she sleeps ON us sometimes so you roll over and there she goes...poor girl....!

Linda, that's a good idea. I remember hearing of the Raggie Shuffle. Looks like I need to learn the steps now...hehe
It is not about being good or bad. It is about being acutely aware of the danger and being focused on stopping the behavior. Stepping on a paw is one thing. Stepping on a head is another. It does happen.
It is a constant fear in our house, especially when there are kittens about and I'm not the nimblest of folk!! I think the amount of times a tail or paw has been stood on equates evenly to the amount of times I have fallen onto furniture, bumped into walls or stumbled on the stairs to avoid treading on said paws and tails. It is hard sometimes to avoid them but I know we are all as careful as we can be.
I was under the impression that this behaviour was normal for raggies and wasn't aware that one could change it. I thought that it is simply a hazard of owning a type of cat that has to know where you are at all times. How do you even begin to change this sort of behaviour? it can't be good to scare them away when they try to come close to you, won't that encourage them to be nervous around you..?

I think that as long as we're all being very, very careful and keeping an eye out for them that nothing bad should really happen. In reality, even if you try to discourage the behaviour accidents can still happen.
Jane....I can't even begin to imagine how tough it would be in your house with so many tails and paws to avoid! And the kittens....wow.

I agree with you. We can only do the best that we can to make sure everyone stays safe Smile
