My Sam is a pretty low key kinda guy. He is only 3 years old. He has never had a lot of 'spunk". He lays around a lot.

Yesterday, I tried to get him to play a bit and he wasn't a bit interested. Not really so unusual.
A few minutes later, my husband called me saying something's wrong. And it was clear that Sam couldn't get up or walk. He tried to bump against the furniture like he always does, but it seemed his whole back left wouldn't work at all and he just went in circles and fell down. It was kinda like his whole side had gone to sleep, even tho I had seen him up just a few minutes before. I picked him up, he purred, didn't seem to be in any pain or discomfort and he seemed to be okay. I put him back down and a few minutes later as we watched him and encouraged him to walk he was fine.
He is still jsut laying around. Walks slowly. Really not so unusual, so it's hard to know if something is going on.
We are at our cabin, no air conditioner, and it was very hot and humid yesterday. He has water and is eating fine. last night he was jumping up on furntirue and seems his usual self now.
He is behind on his vet visit. So I will do that when we get home.
Any ideas?

Maybe he pulled a muscle or had a cramp from laying in a position for a long time? Perhaps his leg fell asleep? I would not be terribly worried about the whole ordeal if he is not limping. That must have been such a scare though Sad

A while back I had noticed Solo was limping badly and could not jump on furniture. I took him to the vet thinking he broke his leg or something.. xray was fine. The vet diagnosed him with a "charlie horse" cramp and gave him some muscle relaxers, and he was fine in a few days.

A vet visit is always a great idea for the peace of mind though.
You have to be very careful about back leg paralysis because it can be the sign of a deadly blood clot. Typically, they would also be associated with intense pain. What you describe can also be strains or even a bit of fever. However, the range of causes, from very dangerous to not so dangerous, means a vet visit is in order.
How scary. I hope it is one off thing and doesn't occur again. Hopefully the vet visit will put your mind and ease and also be good for Sam. Hope he remains well now.
I really hope there's nothing seriously wrong with Sam. I'd get him to a vet as soon as possible, to be on the safe side.
