We've had our new Ragdoll, kitten, Shadow, for almost a week now.
He's really starting to settle in now, and is so very cute.
I have one question, though.
At night, he sleeps in our bed, but before he goes to sleep, he meows pitifully for several minutes, even while we're petting him and he's purring.
He snuggles right up to us, putting his face in our's (my husband's and mine!), but he's still just meowing, and we feel we're just not understanding what he wants. After about 5 minutes he finally curls up and goes to sleep for most of the night.

We feel he's probably just missing his litter mates, but is there anything we can do to help, or will it just take time?

Thanks so much.

Talking may not mean anything needs to be fixed. You are right to pay attention, but often it is just a matter of figuring out that whatever it is is not a problem for him. Maybe he is just telling you "Good Night" and he would be shocked you find it "pitiful."
Mom4boys, you mentioned your kitten was purring too, so I bet he is probably just so happy and content you are going to bed & he gets to do his snuggling with you. I say this because when it's time for bed, Phoenix is over the moon with happiness! I pick him up to carry him into the master bedroom/bath area and his purr is so loud it sounds like the loud roaring rumble of a Harley Davidson. When he eventually falls asleep so snuggly & sweet, and his purring stops, the silence is deafening.

Also, I recall Louise posting that her Coco Dior actually talks/meows at her before bed, telling her it's that time of nite. So cute how kittens and cats get into their little patterns in life.
Hi Mom4boys. It's nice to meet you. Our Bubba's meow is startlingly loud and pitiful sounding. It took me several months to realize he just meows that way.
He still sounds in distress when he meows, and he does it when we go to bed and in the morning when he comes looking for me. I think your baby just really loves his new mom and dad. Shy
Hi and welcome to the forum. I hope you'll share pics of your new raggie with us. You've had some great answers here, and I don't have any additional help in the meow department.
I think it sounds cute...his little routine, but I do understand thinking something is wrong...my Leo is doing this when I get out of the shower and I can't figure out what's up?
Thanks so much for all of the great replies.

We're starting to get used to Shadow's meows, and it does seem that he's just saying he's very happy!

He is even getting used to our two dogs now - our golden retriever (10), Cody, and our pug (2) Sam. He still finds Sam a little obnoxious, but he's found that a few well timed hisses keep him at bay!

I will try to get a photo up soon, once I can get one of my sons to explain how to shrink it down to a size that this forum will allow.

Thanks again!

Hi Ann - here's a tutorial for uploading pics using Photobucket so that they show in your post instead of as an attachment. Most of us on here do it this way. Hope we get to see pics soon!

your little boy is adorably handsome and don't worry, he'll soon be at least as big if not even bigger than your pug Big Grin
