If you're thinking of Bear, try it in a different language. Our newfoundland is Kuma, which is bear in japanese.
Ooops, I didn't see Karissa's post, who had the same idea. Sorry.

Do you pronounce Kuma like it's spelled Kooma? (like the double "oo" sounds in cartoon)
Thank you all so much. I'm trying to believe it will come to me one way or another but I'm just in a funk right now. I keep writing down names only to later decide I don't like them! Last night I was all over the idea of "Tucker" and then this morning...it didn't seem right anymore.
I sort of like Kuma! Knowing me though I'll change my mind. I really appreciate all the help and patience. I'm very grateful for all the many wonderful ideas!

Aw Halebop....don't stress so much about it! I know you'll find the right one
Something I learned long ago is that sometimes when you are pushing too hard, you need to just let it go, relinquish some control. Try just keeping your eyes and mind open and seeing if you don't just see a name somewhere in your daily activities, in your dreams, watching tv etc. Even if you don't find a name before he comes home to you, then surely when you've got him and you get to experience more of his personality, a name will emerge from that
Here's another name though just in case..... Archie ;-)

Sometimes, naming your pets is like naming your children.
When I had each of our 5 kids, we just KNEW what each of their names were going to be. We picked out a boys name and a girls name (I never wanted to know the sex...natures last true and wonderful surprise). But, once they were born, we held them and looked into their faces...and 3 times out of, a name just popped into our heads that was NOTHING like what we had planned ! LOL
Maybe you just need to wait until you bring him home and experience his little personality. ??? I'm worried that you're so stressed out over a name, you're missing out on the delicious anticipation of a new furbabys arrival ! Relax...and name him once you get to know him. There's nothing that says you HAVE to give him a name before you get him home. xo

so much wisdom...seriously! you're both right and I really did need to hear that. i'm going to try to just look forward to meeting him and not worry about his name or his health or if newman will like him or any of the rest of it. i know the waiting and the kitten time goes by so fast - i should try to savor it more and stress a lot less. thank you.

It's ok Halebop! Definitely....whatever you name him, I know It'll be good! Echo is so right. And keep in mind you'll wind up giving him a million and 1 nicknames too ;-) Pyjamas went from JumJums to Jumbleton to Poozo (a combination of poo and bozo....which is him to a T really. LOL).
