We were sleeping last night and the phone rang. Since it was late we let it go to the machine. There was a hysterical voice leaving a message about needing a vet. It was one of our previous pet buyers.
They have two of our cats and were watching TV in their apartment when a big dog jumped through the screen on their livingroom window and grabbed one of the cats and shook it. The man with the dog came running in and started punching the dog to get it to let go. Meanwhile the husband is on the phone calling the police. The police were no help and said to call animal control. Animal Control wouldn't do anything because the people didin't know the dog or the owner. When the dog released the cat both disappeared.
We went on line and found a 24hr Emergency vet close to them and they took the cat in. He wasn't seriously injured and will recover but it was very scary for all of us.
I would be demanding to file a police report giving a description, then I'd start looking for them myself and press some kind of charges. Apparently the owner did not have control over the dog, and they both trespassed.
Glad the kitten is going to be ok though - very scary!!
Im so glad the cat is ok.
Something definitely needs to be done about that dog. I can't believe it jumped THROUGH a screened window to attack a cat.
Oh I thought I would add: I didnt mean that something horrible should happen to the dog. It should just be controlled better when walked.
Years ago, our neighbours dog was being walked and got a hold of our cat and killed her. The dog was just not controlled properly as it was being held by someone too young and not strong enough to hold the dog.
I am still friends with the owners of the dog and see him frequently. he is the sweetest german shepard/cross cattle dog, just doesnt like cats i suppose..
Wow!!! What a scary event. The dog and the owner should definitely be hunted down and charged. They're both lucky that the family wasn't armed! Surely someone in the neighborhood is familiar with the culprits. Perhaps an inquiry/warning on Craig's List is in order.
Oh my gosh, the dog jumped THROUGH the window??

That is so irresponsible to have so little control over one's animal!! I'm so glad the kitty was ok, the poor owners and poor you to be frightened like that!
I'm sure they live somewhere around them.
Own needs to be held responsable for damages and vet bill.
My gosh how terrible for those people.
I can't imagine some big animal coming through my screen after my babies.
Or even a child Linda.... to think that any animal would be so aggressive scares the daylights out of me and makes me very angry. Then to have the owner come barging into your home.. it make the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Yup, police report definitely!! What were police AND animal control dispatch thinking??? Perhaps even call the news stations.. they'd be all over that story. Bet the police would respond then!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...
Got a bit of an update.
The cat has a couple of ripped out claws and a cut on the other foot. In addition he has a few bumps a bruises. I guess he really put up a good fight. The family is on the look out for the dog or owner and will fill out a complaint of a dangerous dog that was not on a leash. Hopefully that will cause the authorities to take some action. They also told us that they were looking for another place to live now.
Thanks for support.
That's just horrific! Sounds like something out of a Stephen King movie, like Cujo (with the rabid saint bernard). Poor kitten and people. Seems like the cops should have responded. What a frightening call in the middle of the night for you, too. Reaching out to you for help like that shows how much they respect and trust you as their breeder.
Ugh....that is HORRIFYING, that poor thing, and that poor family! I am shocked how little the police care. did they just not realise exactly what had happened? for a dog and dude to burst through your window and enter your property like that, that's no small thing!
I hope the poor thing recovers soon. Good on it for putting up a brave fight!
When I was younger I was out on a walk after dinner with my mom and pregnant cousin when a man and his unleashed dog (that looked part wolf) came across us. The dog started snarling and baring it's teeth and it was maybe 7 feet away from us. it was terrifying and the owner of the dog blamed us, though his dog wasn't even on a leash! My best friend's mom also lost 2 pet chihuahuas to a dog that was running loose in their alley. It mangled both of the poor things and noone can really be held accountable for the grief and suffering of the dear dogs and her mom. It happened on two separate occassions as well. SO frustrating.
