I adopted "Sassy" (+/- 4 yrs old) from the Humane Society 2 xmas' ago, as a gift to myself. She is as her name implies, Sassy.

Its taken her from the time I adopted her up untill present to warm up to me, otherwise she was very reclusive and didnt like to be held or even touched.

Now that shes comfortable, she is very peticular, she likes to drink from my kitchen sink faucet, and ocasionally sleep there. If shes not at the kitchen sink, she will lay on the counter, next to the sink in one of my bathrooms and wait for someone to come by, cry a few times and make them turn on the faucet so she can have a drink.

When it comes to her bathroom habits she is just as fussy, she herself as 2 litterboxes, one to pee in(empty, no litter) and another to poo in, and if its not up to her standards, she will poo on the floor.

One thing I noticed is she doesnt have the usual cat voice, shes more raspy and ferral sounding, she has the most blood-curdling shriek I have ever heard, if the kittens try to play with her she screams bloody murder.

She also has a problem with matting, and it seems that daily brushing is a must, but she wont stand to have it done, and im not strong enough to hold her when she runs away.

Any thoughts would be helpful,

Cindi
Hi Cindi and welcome to the forum have you got any pictures of sassy that we could see?
what colouring is she and what type of fur does she have?

It seems that not every ragdoll has the rabbit type coat and some are more perisan like fur that requires more grooming prehaps try brushing her when she is sleeping at first short gentle strokes and lots of praise , my cat enjoys this and finds it relaxing I started this way to get them used to the brush and now I can groom any time.

I have seen a few raggies curl up in bathroom sinks and kitchen sinks but cant really give you much advise or help on that only make sure you have fresh water available on the floor prehaps two bowls in different locations and keep encouraging her to drink I wonder if she feels threated with the kittens are they all sharing a water dish?

best luck look forward to hearing more julie

Hi and welcome to you and Sassy! Love the photo of her in the sink. I have the Catit small drinking fountain for Moe and he'll choose it over a still bowl of water, and actually my dog has taken to it now as well...lol. I got it just because I heard that most cats prefer running water to standing water (...and apparently so do dogs!) It just plugs in and has a small pump which creates a continuous flow of water...the one I have is really easy to clean and saves on running the tap continuously!
Hope you enjoy the forum...

Hi Cindi and Sassy

and what a cutie Sassy is. I have a rescue Ragdoll who sounds a bit like Sassy he is 10 maybe 11 years old and we have had him now for six years, he favorite drinking place is the shower and meows at you until you turn it on for him. He also is not that fussed on kittens or other cats, but does like to hang around another boy we allow outside when we are with them. A Mancho image and a poofy pussy walk.

I read an article recently, can't recall where, on dinking water and it stated that many cats and I think dogs were included, love to sample and taste all types of water and eventually settle on one which they consider tastes best.

Some liked bottled still water best, others sparkling bottled water, some preferred to dirty puddle water others shower residual water (after taste of soap) off the floor and the list goes on. Others love running water and bubbles a smorgusboard of different tastes. Try some and see Sassy's reaction.
