The cats and I are moving tomorrow. The last time I was at the pet store I looked into buying some Feliway to try out for our move, but was shocked at the price of it! $30-40, which I thought was crazy! Is it really worth the price? I've never tried it before... I would love to hear your experiences with it and if it's worked for any of your cats. I will definitely spend the money if I hear positive feedback! Also, if you like the spray or the plug-in diffuser better?
The spray works. (Do not spray the cat.) I have wondered if the diffuser really produces a sufficient concentration in any area with central HVAC carrying it throughout a home. You can find it cheaper than $30. One example:

Okay, thanks Jan. The spray at Petco was $30. If I had planned more ahead of time I would have ordered it online, but I think I'd need it tomorrow if I'm gonna use it!
I was wondering the same thing about feliway.. a friend of mine said it worked great for her.. I think the only time i'd ever use it was for car trips as Gizmo HATES the car... I was even thinking of buying the diffuser and getting an ac adapter to plug into the cigarette lighter in the car so it would be a continuous smell in the car for him, instead of a quick spray.. One of these days I might end up trying it haha.
i bought it from the vets when i moved back into my parents before our house was built, because my parents have their own cats. It was over $70 - argh!
i didnt seem to notice whether it worked or not. i also plugged it in in our bedroom when we finally moved to the new place. the cats were still stressed, but seemed to prefer being in the bedroom. (not sure whether it was the feliway that made them feel comfortable in the room, or because their cat tree is in the bedroom as well as other familar furniture)
the lady at the vets said that they have a couple of diffusers in their cat ward and think that it works well.
my breeder also was happy when i mentioned that i had a diffuser.
she also suggested putting a couple of drops of "rescue remedy" in their mouths a couple of times a day, when percy moved in with us.
I bought the rescue remedy, but couldnt manage putting it into their mouths on my own. my breeder swears by the rescue remedy though and suggests it to all of her new familys that already have cats.
I had the rescue remedy when I brought the girls home, but just used it in their water for a while instead of trying to put it in their mouth.
We tried the diffuser for a month, same result as Meghan - very expensive and didn't do much! We were also told to buy a few diffusers and spread them throughout the house AND to try it for at least a few months... (bye bye money!!) But we only had the one for a short time. Maybe it works better with more than one but we weren't prepared to dish out the dough. Some people rave about it, I guess it depends on how receptive your cats are. Ours don't react to catnip either, figure!
The spray is good... I used the spray for all my ragdolls when they first come home with me... I spray the kitty room, on the bed and soft toys... I find that with the spray, the kittens calmed down very quickly and started exploring the new environment very fast...

I also used it when I introduced Star/Twinkle to Sky/Evo... It worked well too...

I have used both and would recommend the spray definitely. I always spray the inside of the carrier about 10 minutes before a journey and spray the bedding that I put in the carrier and all of my cats respond favourably and travel well. With the diffuser, I had one when I fostered a raggie for a short while and he was completely stressed by Lucy the dog. I didn't really notice much difference despite the diffuser being plugged in 24/7 and Lucy not being allowed in the room with Arthur, the cat. When I asked my vet he said you really need to have them plugged in for about a week before you need them and in a room 15ft x 12ft he said I needed 2!!
I have heard very favourable reports on the Rescue Remedy in water though although I have not tried that myself.
I have the spray. I spray it in Jake's carrier before we go to the vet because he hates the vet. It cost me over $50 and I could not tell any difference. However when I moved the boys to my Dads house from my Mums, I sprayed around the laundry (which they were confined to at first) and they were very calm... whether it was a result of the feliway I am unsure.
Rescue Remedy did not work for us either, but I have heard very pleased reports for both RR and Feliway. It probably depends on the cat.
