Funny story about Biscotti (my ragdoll):
One morning around 4:00 am, I was having a dream in which Led Zepplin was about to punch me. (We can analyze that one on another forum). To avoid being on the other end of Led's fist, I instinctively shot out my arm, with the intention of trying to stop his forward thrust, only for some reason I decided to grab his fist instead.
Immediately after I did that--successfully grabbing his fist--I was suddenly awakened from my dream by a loud noise: MEOOOOOW! As I opened my eyes I discovered I had grabbed poor little Biscotti's front paw!
After I was sure I hadn't hurt her, I laughed so hard I couldn't even go back to sleep. Too bad there was no one there to share that rather unique moment in the annals of strange things one does while dreaming, but I'm sharing it with all of you now. (I did share it the next day at work and it got some great laughs.)
Speaking generally, I've had my kitty (8-months) for a month now and I have to say she's a complete delight! She constantly entertains me with her antics--I especially love to watch her when she's outside on my front porch. I've created a safe barrier there so she can't get out but still watch all the birds as well as play with any bugs that have the misfortune of crawling on my front porch.
And she does exactly what they say ragdolls do. I'm not sure if playing hide and seek is one of those raggie traits but she really seems to like playing that with me--and she always finds me immediately--no matter how clever I am at hiding myself. (My dog is not nearly as good as she is at this game.) Amazing.
Also true to Raggie form, she follows me everywhere and is very affectionate though she's not one of those ragdolls that likes to be held, which is really okay with me. She doesn't mind being carted from one place to another and never runs from me--she just doesn't particularly like being held baby style. But she loves to sleep right by me and to be rubbed and petted--especially lying on her back and having her tummy rubbed which I know enough about cats to know that is not usual for most of that particular species.
Like most cats however, and despite how affectionate she is, she does have that independent streak, though actually that's okay because I like the fact she's not too needy (as in she doesn't particularly care if she pleases me or not...unlike dogs).
Don't get me wrong, I like dogs (most of them) but some of them are way too needy and who wants to feel they are 100% responsible for meeting anyone--including an animal's--needs!
Speaking of dogs, for those of you who might remember my concern about the dog and cat getting along, that problem has been solved. Despite all the complicated and labor-intensive advice I got from various sources (not here)--including all the dog experts)--I just used my own instincts.
I kept them separated by a pet gate for about 2.5 weeks, then one day, feeling they had smelled each other enough, and that the dog (a Chow-shepherd mix) knew by now THIS cat was off limits (in terms of chasing her and doing harm to her), I removed the pet cat, loudly declaring, "Okay you two are going to get along and peacefully co-exist--there will be no animosity or jealousy in this house AND the spirit of reconciliation is present!"
What can I say, I believe in the power of confession. And it may sound a bit crazy but it worked! My dog tried just a few times to chase her, but I corrected her, then praised her for obeying and it all worked out just fine.
That's it. If that helps anyone who is faced with a similar problem, then I'm glad to have taken the time to share my "method." You should know that I had to be particularly cautious because my re-homed ragdoll was completely declawed by the previous owner--hence she is defenseless. I would not have done that to her but it was what it was. She needed a good home and, as you can see, she is a beautiful little girl![img]
