Hi All,

Riley has taken to using peoples legs a climbing posts. She has severely scratched my mother and me and is still acting rather agressive. I keep saying NO and OUCH really loud but shes not stopping. Is using a water spray bottle too cruel?

Also, she has been chewing where they shaved her front paw for her anasthetic when she was desexed. Is this because its irritated and should i take her to the vet? She does it all the time when she's sitting with me and she was desexed about 3 weeks ago.

Any ideas?

Thanks
- Lizzie.
Make sure to clip claws. A spray bottle can work in this situation - and/or give a two minute time out in a small room and then loving. Sometimes calling out in pain is enough. This is kitten behavior and should not be let slide, but it is likely a stage. Have a vet look at the leg if you cannot tell it is OK.
Lizzie,

(Hello! I'm in Melbourne too! Smile )

My Ruby had a heap of issues regarding attacking our legs and feet when we were in bed. I think the best thing is as Jan suggests, first make sure to clip those claws (and check them at least once a week as they can get sharp again quickly!). There is also something called softpaws, which are like little plastic caps for their nails that you might be interested in to avoid any sorts of scratches. Clipping the nails just means they're not as sharp, but they still hurt ><

The only way we were really able to keep Ruby from attacking us was having the squirt bottle handy. and by handy I mean, honestly, carry it with you everywhere, especially during the times and in the places Riley is acting out the most. I would put mine in the bed next to me so I could grab it quick. And you'd better believe she went running when that water hit her. LOL. I think it's a good idea to say NO just before you use it or when you use it so she associates the word no with some unpleasant watery consequences.

If Riley is stubborn, just saying NO! might not cut it...you'll be able to gauge yourself what might be required Smile

Good luck!
The boys learned pretty quickly about the water bottle! They were very determined back-door dashers, but ever since we left a bottle outside in clear view, they don't dare run! Now we don't even have to use it Smile You usually only have to squirt them a few times before they catch on, and you only have to get a little bit of water on them, so it's not cruel to use if they are being especially naughty or stubborn. Just try not to get it in their face, the back paws or bum is a good spot. Hope Riley settles down!
Hi all,

Thanks for the help.

I think Riley is way too much like me, stubborn. Smile shes just too darn cute. I shall now be investing in a water spay bottle and will try that.

Your cats are gorgeous Smile
I'd defo say try the squirt bottle. Have been doing this with Charlie and I've literally used it 2 or 3 times, and now all I have to do is show him the bottle and he stops whatever it is he's doing! They sure are fast learners!
