hello all!!!

I've been wondering...maybe this is a dumb question but I was curious...

When adding new foods to your kitten's diet, do you only have to introduce them to that food once? Let's say you introduce fancy feast to them, if you don't feed them fancy feast for let's say....2 weeks or a month after the initial introduction, do you have to reintroduce it to them?

Also, if you're feeding them different varieties of fancy feast (not just chicken flavour for example) do you have to introduce each seperate variety at a time? Or are they all basically the same?

I've asked Ruby's breeder these questions and she thinks there would only need to be one introduction, but I wanted to see what you guys have experienced.

Thanks in advance for any help! Smile
To answer your question,,,
Any time switching foods it is a good idea to do it slowly even if they had been on it weeks prior.......
I feed varieties of fancy feast elegance but it was done slowly.
I can now switch it up between chicken and tuna and they do fine with the change.
I wouldn't want to chance the possibility of the runs and upset tummy.
Charlie's brand of food comes in three different flavours, chicken, lamb and duck, and he gets a different one each day and is totally fine with it.
I believe (but anyone correct me if I'm wrong!) that the issue of food transitions and gradual introductions is a lot more important when dealing with dry food than with canned. (?)
Halebop, I have always thought the same thing you just posted. I've heard to vary canned food flavors, within the same line (like Sammi is doing with Charlie) (mine is currently Science Diet), so the kitten is introduced to many flavors & does not become finicky. But, would also luv to hear what others think.

Great thread....Jums!
Thanks for the advice everybody.

Interesting about the wet vs dry food....I wonder if that does make a difference?

Right now I've got them on a mix of about 50/50 two different dry foods. would I always need to keep it the same ratio or could I, if I run out of one, feed 100% of the other?

This weekend I bought many many different flavours of fancy feast (regular and sensations) because I definitely do not want them to be finicky. so should I introduce each flavour slowly and then maybe feed them a different flavour every day? I introduce them so slowly but usually Jamas still gets loose stools. I think he may have an extra sensitive stomach though as Ruby seems fine.

Things like this can be so frustrating because Jamas already has issues eliminating outside of the box and then add to that possible loose stools from food. u_u;;

SammiCharlie, did you introduce each flavour slowly? there are so many different flavours of FF that I'm afraid to just interchange them (plus there's marinated vs pates...).
