Hi! Haven't been here for a loong time! Need to catch up!
But have a question,
Does anyone trim their cats' mane hair? When my Sam tries to take a bath, he gets caught up in his mane hair and can't get away from it. It gets stuck in his mouth and he has trouble getting out of it! LOL. Hubby feels bad for him thinks I should trim his hair. It's sooo bushy and beautiful!
What should I do?
Thanks!
Ruthie
Oh how funny, my Solo has a problem with this also! It is pretty pathetic watching them finally get the hair out, only to get it caught in their mouth again!
Is it winter or summer for you guys? With Solo's winter coat he got it caught in his mouth, and then he recently blew his coat... I mean he was shedding way more than I thought was normal and was actually mortified that perhaps this is how it would be forever since he was only about 10 months old, but now he has a thinner coat with a shorter mane (or ruff) and no longer gets it caught in his mouth, so I have yet to trim his.
Here's a thread with a pic I posted when I was worried about the same thing!

Leave it and be proud of it. If he needs some help, ask hubby to brush and comb it for him.
it's quite normal and one of the beauties of the ragdoll, that gorgeous ruff in winter. Don't worry about it, just help him out by making sure their are no matts in it and he'll be perfectly happy and look stunning!!
Your husband reminds me of mine. He's suggested that I give the girls "a trim" periodically when we run into problems like that. Men...they always seem to want to give what they think is a practical solution for what they perceive as a problem.
LOL, Thanks everyone! The only trimming I've done is the back end a bit when there are "problems" there. LOL
Love the link, Thanks!!!
Fortunately, Sam has never had a matt problem. And I can sneak in a good combing sometimes.
Another question--anyone have a Small Ragdoll? Sam is about 3 years and only 11.5 pounds. He's a little guy!
And just a bit crossed eyed too! Anyone else? But a ragdoll he is--no doubt about that!
Thanks again!
There are Ragdoll male peanuts, but keep in mind that an adult male Siamese is about 9 pounds.
As for crossed eyes, that can happen, but it is unusual in Ragdolls.
Sounds like a small raggie to me. Samantha is one too - female, but still at 8 years old, only 8 pounds, and I've seen at least one cross eyed-ragdolls (and i think it was someone on this forum)
Lancelot is only about 4.5kg (I guess thats 10 pounds). He may have put some more weight on now - hopefully! He's 1 1/2 years now. At the last vet visit they said he was cross-eyed (but only a little) but he doesn't have any trouble seeing.
