I'm confused about Dexy's coloring. He's registered as a blue bicolor but as he's getting older and darker the color on his saddle looks almost a tan color. And sometimes even his mask looks like it has a hint of tan. Is this normal?
Examples:
In this picture, he looks very blue to me
And in this one his mask looks almost seal colored
Are some ragdolls more "blue" than others?? Or is it just lighting?? Or am I seeing things? LOL
He looks quite seal to me...
you could get a color test on him, they're only like $40-60 or so depending on what company you go with ( I recommend UCDavis, they're quick and wont lose your samples too easily), but he could just be a dark blue.
My Blue is exactly his color and is darkening as he gets older. I believe Jan says some blues are darker than others.

Hmmm. I think he normally looks more blue than seal though. It's like he's a chameleon ragdoll, his color changes... LOL! And it's not that big of a deal to me that I would do a color test. I love him either way

Ok, good to know!

He is so beautiful Lynds, funny how they do seem to change color at times! He still looks very blue to me, even with the seal creeping in.
There is no blue pigment. All of the pigment in seal, blue, chocolate and lilac is BLACK. The effect of color that gives each its name is the way the pigment is distributed on the hair shaft and optical illusions. And, yes, all of the colors are in a range, so there are darker and lighter blues. In addition, all of the colors tend to get darker as the cat gets older. This is why blue is really blue/grey or just grey - or, as you prefer, tan.
Just like seal can vary from brown to almost black blue can vary too. My litter brothers Alfie and Adonis demonstrate this admirably in real life with Alfie being almost dark grey while Adonis remains a tanish grey. You can just about see it in this photograph....
Dexter definitely looks blue to me, and a beautiful blue he is too!!

What a great example Jane! I can totally tell the difference in color! Thanks for sharing!
He is a blue and this coloration is quite normal.
As he ages he will get darker.
My Janessa who is a blue mitted at one point looked cream/apricot on part of her back (saddle). Now, she is silver/ grey but this is also a year later. She will always be on the lighter range of the blues.
He is handsome, either way.
