Hello. I was wondering what types of "adaptations" some of you have made after your Raggies moved in. We've had to make several.
In case you've not noticed from prior pics, we have lots of bears, thousands, probably. Pre-Mishka, every room was decorated with bears. Now, most surfaces are cleared of "things" since Mishka has taken over tabletops, shelves, fridge, bar, etc.
It became evident early on that she would get into too much trouble in the living and dining rooms. We tried cardboard barriers; but, after raising them to over 5 ft. high only to have her scale them easily, we had to have French doors installed. She now has only "supervised visits".
Our fireplace opening is oversized, and the screen we had for years just barely fit. After the third time that Mishka knocked it over, and she was sitting on the logs, covered in soot, the opening was also covered with cardboard. No retailer carries fireplace screens large enough, so we had to get a custom-made screen.
After "baring" the kitchen surfaces, Mishka now has unimpeded access to the fridge. She loves to start out in our room or hers, barrel down the hall, through the den, and into the kitchen, sounding like an elephant. She then jumps onto the two tables in front of the window, then onto the microwave on a stand, and then onto the fridge. She loves to lounge on the fridge, and has been known to stretch out so much that she falls off! Never fear, nothing can hurt our rambunctious Knucklehead!
Mishka is quite a character, the covered in soot part made me chuckle.
We've only changed little things so far, since Phoebe is just a kitten, nothing major so far and I have alot of teddy bears on a table and two more bears sitting in rocking chairs on the floor and so far she's totally ignored them. She sits beside them and bats her toys underneath the chair, but doesn't give a sidewards glance at the bears themselves. My breakfast whilst I'm reading this site of course is not ignored
No doubt though as she grows and can leap higher, things will be changed, so far my kitchen bench is unreachable.
Be careful! Those bears have a way of multiplying. Years ago, we started with a few. Now, our Christmas tree alone has over 450 bear decorations. You have been warned!

I know, I put a stop to buying them a while ago, but every now and then someone buys me one for a present.
Your Christmas tree must look absolutely fabulous with all of those bears.
Mishka sounds like a little mischief maker! Just adorable

Apart from removing all temptation for chewing cords and important papers (bills, bank statements, original copies of pedigrees etc), we have become very raggie "aware"... aware that they, at any moment, can run around/underneath your feet, attempt to jump in the fridge when it's closing, can run at lightning speed from one end of the house to the other, and may be hiding under anything you may want to sit on!
I have a 2 X 6 board wrapped in sisal made into a ramp in my livingroom just so the girls can get on top of the chiffarobe to sleep. Our livingroom is no longer our own - it's devoted totally to the girls with cat beds on the two sofas and the chair covered in a fleece blanket. That's ok, we never used the livingroom much anyway. Our enclosed deck has basically been converted into a cat room with cat flap so they can get out to it and lots of climbing and sleeping stuff around.
The hardest adaptations we have had to make for Solo were finding where on earth to put his food dishes and litter boxes!
We also have 2 cat trees for him - so more of our living space is being used
From day 1 we taught Solo he is not allowed on shelves, desks, tables, or counters. He is good and only goes on couches beds or his furniture...although he WILL go on tables and shelves when no one is watching (I sometimes find evidence - like something that was on my shelf now on the floor lol). Overall, he is such a good boy, we got lucky!
My living room is now home to two litter boxes and a sofa covered in fur

We lost a chair in the family room guest can sit on the floor

..... as we had to make room for the kitty furniture.

Leyla can't get up on anything higher then my bed her trunk keeps her grounded:)and for Cello he only gets on the counter in the morning to watch me make breakfast . cello is a quite boy and not a big jumper. My husband has put on tv shows that have live orchestra music on... Cello likes to watch and listen to music so we will spend a evening watching what the cats want too,,, on tv,,

Oh and I might add that we are constantly tripping over the toys they "leave out"! haha, just like real kids

We've only had Charlie 6 days and have already had to make a few adjustments ... the vase of fresh flowers I normally have on the dining table is a thing of the past, glass table with a curious kitten isn't a great place for a vase! LOL! I also find myself being a hell of alot tidier now, when we go to bed I make sure any glasses that would normally be left on the coffee table til the next morning are taken to the kitchen to avoid any accidents during the night!
Also, no drinks are put on the floor now, even for the tiniest of seconds, as Charlie's head is straight in the glass trying to have a taste of what Mummy or Daddy are drinking! LOL!
The lounge has been taken over by his scratch post, his toys, food bowls, bed and litter tray ... although I'm slowly moving the litter tray a few inches a day until it will eventually end up in the bathroom (especially as Charlie seems to hold his poops til we have guests and then show everyone how good he is at using his litter tray!LOL!)
I've also had to make a temporary barrier over the kitchen door with cardboard so he can't get in there, as racing under the kitchen cupboards seems to be great fun to him and seeing as the wires and electrical stuff for the oven, washing machine, fridge, freezer etc all run under the cupboards I'm a bit nervous about him going under there! Gonna have to come up with a new plan of action soon thou as I think he's gonna soon figure out how to get over the barrier! LOL!
