OMG-my son called me after school and said Leo was stuck in the coat closet all day...my hubby said he only had the door open for seconds and Leo must have run in...he had a "bm"...We all feel terrible.
Ofcourse, he is happy to out...stupid question on my part...he shouldn't have any litter box issues, right? Knock on wood, neither cat has ever gone outside the box...my poor guy!
Good luck with that! You never know.. if he had to go.. well, you know!!
Use bleach or enzymatic cleaners on the stain. Other than overmarking, this kind of singular event is not likely to cause litterbox avoidance.
Dexter got shut in my roommates bedroom for about 4-5 hours one day while we were at work. I got home and heard him meowing at her door. Luckily, he didn't go to the bathroom at all while he was in there. Boy, did she feel bad!!! Now she triple checks her room before she goes to work in the morning and if she can't find him she just leaves her door open. Poor Leo, I bet he's relieved to be out!
As I was leaving for the weekend on Friday, I decided I should check my bedroom since I had the door open for a few minutes. I found Bonkers under my bed. I had the door closed, and had told my friend that she would probably not see Bonkers since he is so shy. He could have been locked in my room for 3 days.. I am SO glad that I checked. A lesson to me for sure! This was the first time I have been gone for more than one night, the cats were very well cared for.
Poor boy - I'm sure you all must have felt awful. Hope that boy has learned his lesson and won't go darting into closets at first crack!! I wonder if Chloe knew he was in there and sat next to the door today or anything? How did you find him?
Oh dear poor Leo, hopefully he's ok.

I know what it's like though, our Phoebe insists on climbing in anything that a door is open to, closet, pot cupboard, you name it and she's like lightening getting in there, had a couple of close calls of almost shutting her in there.
He is a happy guy...when I came hope-he flopped for a belly rub.
My son said he hear crying when he opened the door...yes my hubby felt terrible. I expected him to say..Oh well, he shouldn't have been there" which is what I normally get, but he really felt bad.
Prior to this event-also this morning, Leo was shut in my son's room and Chloe was on the hallway side and hubby said, is Leo in there? and he was...so maybe after the closet today-he will have learned-atleast we have!
Oh no, Laura...poor Leo!

This has happened to us in the past, yet fortunately no issues.

This past weekend, somehow BOTH Annie and Henry were closed off in the downstairs bathroom.
As soon as I woke, I said to my husband where are they? Upon investigation, there they were...not locked in per se. He said the door was angled, yet they couldn't get out. There are tons of hair.........everywhere! I felt so bad because they apparently tried for hours to get out and couldn't. Sad

I think if you follow Jan's suggestions, all will be well. And special hugs to Leo.Smile
i had this happen a couple of weeks ago too.
Edward popped into a drawer and i closed him in there while i went out.

he also had a little accident in there. (number two) but didnt have any litterbox issues because of it.

Poor Leo. Give him a belly rub for me.
