Hi! I just came back from my business trip, and my mum told me that the appetite of my Choi Chai seems to be changed since last 10 days or so …

He used to take at least 3-1/2 ~ 5 tablespoons of dry cat food everyday, but starting from about 10 days ago, he hardly eats that much … The most about 2 ~ 3-1/2 tablespoons each day.

Apart from Choi Chai is not eating much, I have checked it out with my mum, and from my observations, there is not much changes on his frequencies to the cat litters, behaviours, interests, and etc, not to forget, he does not lose any weights too (I weighed him before I left for my trip, and this morning weighed him again), but just maintain, since his appetite has changed smaller.

Is it alright, and normal of Choi Chai? My brother told me his appetite may change, since he is more than a year old now, but I thought for Ragdoll, even though if it is more than a year old, it will only consider as fully grown when it reaches 3 or 4 years old?

Do you think I should send my Choi Chai to the vet?

Thank you for your kind advises in advance, and best regards.

Anxious mummy from Singapore, Crystal
You are right to pay attention as you are (even after a vet visit), since loss of appetite is an early warning sign of illness. However, you are not noticing lethargy, sneezing, diarrhea, loss of weight, greater thirst or other signs of illness. A vet visit is never a waste, but you may want to just monitor for a while before that and see if the appetite returns. Some cats do go off food and sometimes they even want a food change. If you do see any other indications of illness or this lasts a bit longer, then a vet visit is an even better idea.
Hi! Jan ...

Thank you!

Apart from change of appetite, Choi Chai seems fine, and normal. He is neither lethagic nor listless, no diarrhea, though ocassionally he does sneeze. For his sneeze it may due to the recent renovation of one of room? He is still active, and responses well to us, as well as to the surroundings.

I will continue to monitor Choi Chai, at the same time, I have made appointment with the vet too on this Thursday, 13 May 2010.

Many thanks once again, and have a good weekend.
No worries. It's normal to reduce the amount eaten after the first year. Choi Chai is not growing quite as fast as he was in his first year.
Sometimes my boys don't eat very much at all for a couple of days and then they eat and eat. Choi Chai might be just bored with his food right now. I sure hope he's fine.
Dear all ...

Many thanks for your advises, and messages, and they really do make us feel better ... At least we are not so worried, and kept finding ways, and means to coax Choi Chai in making sure he eats ...

You guys maybe right, he maybe just feeling bored on his food, or just a little break? He seems to be eating slightly more, since yesterday evening ...

Thank you very much once again, and have a good Sunday.

Cheers!
Could it have been a result of your absence? I know that cats can sometimes go off their food a bit if we are away. Just an idea, hope he is okay!
Dear all ...

Thank you for your kind concerns, and advises ..., which really make me feel so good, at least not so worried over my precious Choi Chai ...

My Choi Chai seems to be getting on fine ..., and the Vet said he looks good, and healthy, no sign of sickness. The Vet also mentioned that Choi Chai has beautiful coat / fur, and his skin, eyes, and all look fine too, so told me not to worry. Even his weight is light, weighing at only 4.7kg for a 1 year 3+months Ragdoll, but he is not thin, so it is fine.

Like you guys advised me, Choi Chai maybe at a slower stage of growing already, so he slows down his intake of food. ^^

Really thank you very much, and love you all. :*)

Have a nice day, and good weekend ahead!

Cheers!
Good to hear from you, I'm so glad that Choi Chai is doing well!!
Sharon--Glad to hear that Choi Chai is doing fine. My Mishka is almost 14 months, and she has periods when she doesn't eat very much. Then she makes up for it. Your boy is certainly quite handsome!
