Our Thomas (seal Bi) doesn't like to be combed either! We have had him for almost a yr. He was 6 months when we got him. I try and comb him when he is very sleepy, and just get at the places where he may mat up. So in other words, I'll comb him for maybe only a min. Then if he starts to try and run away, I just tell him "GOOD BOY!!" Seems like the more I do this, the more he is starting to like it.
Ragdolls tend not to mat but they do need a weekly or fortnightly brush to keep their fur looking and feeling nice. If he isnt brushed ever then you will have hair all over the place and he will most likely mat after a while if not fed good food to keep the coat nice and to reduce furballs. The fur ranges from silky to super fluffy on the outcrosses in the breed to bring in all these things, if the raggie has a lot of persian in him then he will most likely have a higher matting coat. We are starting to see more of the 100% Old Traditional Line Ragdolls that have not been outcrossed with any other breed to 'better' the breed, which a small group of breeders around the world have spend a lot of time keeping the lines clean. Thanks to these wonderful breeders we are starting to see a lot more of them, and I am very lucky to have one of them. Oscar's coat is a lot silkier then my other two. Although all three are registered real ragdolls and show ragdolls, Oscar has no outcrossing. I hope you understand what I mean. Most Ragdolls love being brushed anyway so you shouldnt have a problem!
PS - I brush my Ragdolls almost everyday purely because they love it.
PPS - It also does help on the reduction of white fur everywhere.
