I currently have both Chloe and Leo on kitten food. (Iams/RC kitten)
I didn't switch Chloe (1yr in Jan) over to adult yet because Leo was still young. Leo is turning 1yr next week. Should I switch over now or keep Leo (and Chloe) on kitten a bit longer? They have their own bowls but sometimes share...
You can switch over.
From what I understand (and anyone is welcome to add to this or correct me if I am wrong), the differences between kitten food and adult food are minimal. The only visible difference is the size of the biscuit and there is less fat in the adult food.

You wont be doing any harm either way but it is best to give them food that is formulated for their age group. Switching a cat over early/late wouldnt be a problem I imagine - every cats development is different anyway.
No. Kittens are better on kitten blends. The primary difference, since some adult foods also have the protein and fat levels, is that kitten food generally has a higher proportion of calcium and phosphorous which the kitten needs for the rapid bone growth of kittenhood. Those differences are also fine for young adults in good health, so there need not be any rush to switch over to adult food - and one can often free feed kiitten food that will also be eaten by adults in the household.
In the last two weeks, nobody here is eating any kitten food. I keep both kitten and adult available at all times, and just all of a sudden it's as if they made an agreement they wouldn't have anymore kitten. I had wondered how I'd know when to stop, and the decision has been made for me. I don't know if this is common, but it sure eased has my mind. Smile
