Hi
Just a couple of questions.
What age should a ragdoll female be desexed at?
What are the benefits and negatives?
Also I wasn't sure where I should post this but we have had her for about a month though and she still spits, hisses and raises her fur and our maltese. Is there anyway I can get her to warm quicker?
Thanks guys!
It may take her a while to get to an understanding with your Maltese, but I bet they eventually work it out.
As for the desexing, the younger the better. Here in the US they are done around 12 weeks before they leave for their new homes. They seem to recover much quicker the younger they are. In other countries represented on the forum, the vets won't desex before 6 months. There is no negative for desexing - only positive unless you are a breeder and bought your ragdoll as a registered breeder. The only negative is not desexing, which can lead to continued heats for the female and uterine infections from not being bred.
We got a Shih Tzu back in Feb and Zeke the flame point loved him at first site and the others not so much. Yesterday I caught Mykah and Dakotah napping together which was the first time. I let them go at their own pace. Now Wylee allows him to sniff him but not quite there as friends and with Kizzi if it happens I will fall down. I laugh cause Dakotah actually chases Miss Catitude til she hops the gate into her room.
Now desexing is whatever you and your vet say. We waited til almost 5 months due to the vet said to. Now with our dog he was done last week at not quite 4 months but his was due to a hernia he had and was growing day by day.
The main thing is to get it done as soon as they allow it.
Some vets will do early desexing and some will only do it after 6 months. There is no negative with doing it early (say 12 weeks). The main criteria for early desexing here is for the kitten to be at least 1kg, because it makes the sedation safer.
