Very sad story in the paper today regarding 2 cats and a dog that died due to a fire in a apt. While no humans died the pets had no chance beacuse the cats and dogs both hid and the fire dept didnt even know they existed. Very sad.
I ordered these stickers just now, they are free. I also have a wallet card just in case something happens to me/family so my pets will not be left home alone. I think it is very important to alert officials that there are pets inside your home. Also something very important that I learned many years ago. If there is a fire and you are home the safest way to transport a small animal is to put it in a pillow case. I will always have that imbedded in my mind.
here is the sticker:

I was just thinking about my plan for the cats and bird if there was ever a fire the other day. It would just be a nightmare!
I used to have something like that! I had it on my old house. Our fire department hands out a similar sticker to mark which rooms are childrens. They are reflective and you place them in the upper right hand corner so they know which rooms to search.
Just checked that a similar one at Amazon is 6.99 and this one if free if you live in the U.S. Great deal!
Thanks Lexi - I just ordered some!! You're so right, we all should have something like that to alert emergency officials.
Thank you for posting this! I will get some right away!
I ordered them today.

Awesome idea, for cats AND children!! Thank you!
This is my worst nightmare!! (This is going to sound morbid).... but sometimes when i leave the house and lock the door, I'm scared one day there will be a fire and the cats will be locked inside.
I just never want anything to happen to my babies and I'm scared that something will when I'm not home to protect them.
I will have a look into something like this for Australia. Do you think Fire Fighters would search the house for your pets if there was no people inside?

Oh Yes they do search when they know there are pets inside. It is so natural for our pets to go and hide when they are afraid and smoke, loud noises,fire.. etc all are so very scarey so I want to make sure the fire fighters know that there are pets and children in my home. I pray that none of us ever have to be in that situation. As a rule know where your pets go for their "safe spots" that way you can always direct the emergency personel to them.
Yeah I have had some since we have had them and you can get some similar at Pet Smart. I know they are part of the family and we should treat them as such by caring like this to get these stickers. Thanks for the reminder as I do need one for Dakotah now.
I don't think we have anything like this in the UK, I will have to investigate, but thanks for the great tip on how to get the animals out safely. I have often wondered and worried about how I would get all of my cats out safely as obviously I don't have enough carriers for them all, a pillow case would work admirably for the smaller ones.
