When doing a search I found a thread on this a couple of years old. There was some good information there. However, I wanted to revisit this issue for myself.
I bought the largest litter boxes I could find before I got the Gs. Now, the boxes appear to be getting too small-particularly for Gabriel. Also, they are starting to kick their "deposits" out of the box (along with ever increasing mounds of litter-I think in an effort to find room. I scooped the litter box every day. I spend time to make sure I get everything out. I keep the litter boxes clean, changed and replace litter when needed.
Do you have any recommendations!
Thanks!!
Most Ragdolls do not need unusually large boxes. Some cats will toss litter out of the box. Try a covered box for that.

that is what I use. To teach Solo to use the door, I just put him in and when he figured out how to get out I gave him a treat. I only had to put him in through the door about 5 times or so and he figured it out.
Years ago when I had a moggie, a vet nurse recommended I use a plastic storage container and throw away the lid. It's a bigger size than a normal litter box and with the high sides I don't have to worry about litter going outside when they're scratching around. It's what I've done now with Murphy and it still works well. You can get them from the mega cheap shops so they're a really cheap option.

Actually Monkey figured it out all on his own. I put it in the same spot his old litter box had been with the same litter we always use, and curious as he is he was inside it and using it right after I put it down! I used one of those plastic storage containers from Walmart that Jaz recommends first, but we needed a lid to keep Koa from getting into it and this one works great for that. If you don't have a dog to worry about, the plastic container would probably work great for you.
I use a big plastic storage box and then cut a hole in it to enter and put a big Steralite storage tray in the bottom of it for the litter - easier to take out and change. It does pretty well at keeping the litter in - but of course, they still track it out some. (Mine are outside on an enclosed deck and right now the pollen is really bad here so they look worse then usual with all the pollen on them!)

I use Yesterday's News litter which looks like little pellets. I find that they track this much less than sand, and when they do it is just a matter of sweeping a couple of pellets off of the floor and not tiny grains of sand.
I first used a regular, uncovered litter box for Logan. Within the first couple of days of having him home, we realized that he is one of those "diggers". And I mean DIGGERS ! Litter was everywhere around the litter box. He digs with both front feet, like a dog, until he reaches the bottom of the box. On top of that, our toilet started leaking from the pipe attached to the wall. When I went in to the bathroom and discovered water all over the floor with the litter around the litter box, which by then was more like a wet cement, I was in shock ! So, I switched to the hooded litter box, and it really helped. He actually seems to really like the hooded box better, I guess it gives him more privacy.
