Two things ive noticed recently. Firstly, i hand feed my raggie (had him maybe a month) boiled chicken breast sometimes, i'd done this for two weeks no problems. Recently though, he's started swatting at my hands when i go to give it to him, i think he may be over excited but i dont want this behavior to continue (i have scratches on my hand!). I make a loud "OUCH" noise everytime he does it, and dont give him the chicken till he stops. Is this the right course of action?
Also, hes not too keen on grooming, especially as the brush nears his lower torso (i wonder why?). How do you guys get your kittens used to grooming?
Thank you Smile
It is correct not to reward him with the treat when he grabs and calling out in pain when he does is also a good technique. Cut his claws. Sounds like they may be too sharp.

On grooming, just keep at it and try techniques to reduce the response - moving more slowly, doing a small amount, grooming someplace else and returning. Sometimes changing from a brush to a comb or a similar change will help. Try him in different positions. Perhaps even start by just touching him, making grooming motions while he is being cuddled and petted during the day. Try diverting him by blowing in his face when he is too focused on the brush or comb.
Bub will let me clip his claws because he knows he gets tuna flakes when we are done. He doen't get the flakes any other time except for claw clipping.
He doesn't volunteer to have them clipped, but I just keep gently stroking his paws and pushing out his claws until he gives in.
