Full Version: Cats going crazy all night

Hi all,

Whilst we're thrilled that the boys are getting along better, we have not been able to sleep for the last 2 nights. The bubs spend the entire night chasing one another, running all over the place, play fighting and smashing into doors and food bowls.

Prior to Meeko's arrival, Ashy used to sleep through the night with us (he'd go to eat and use his tray but would always come back in quietly and keep on snoozing. Now they both go crazy all through the night.

We have tried taking Meeko (the bub) in with us and locking the door, but Ashy scratches the back of the door. Meeko sometimes takes a snooze but then runs off and cries to be let out of the room soon after (result, no sleep for us).

So the question is, is there any way we can train them to sleep at night? It took a while for Ashy to get into the routine but he was always much quieter about it. What should we be doing to get them to stop fighting and playing at night? We can't lock Ashy away in the room (tried that before and it doesn't work) and ideally we don't want to do that to Meeko either, but we're desparate for some sleep.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Ours have midnight crazies too! When they sleep they take up the entire bed (its a king size... figures!) Maybe try putting them in a separate room together at night, with a bed/food/litter but minimal toys, maybe they will get the hint.
I'm not sure what to do about it but it sounds irritatingly hilarious! lol They're just so excited!
Can you close both cats out of your room? Maybe just a night or two so you get caught up on sleep.
Still is better that they are enjoying each other, right?
Play hard with them interactively right before bed time to tire them out, then give them some canned food if you can (if their diets will tolerate it). The full tummy (canned seems to be more filling) and the tiredness after play may help.
I went through this with Bonkers and Mocha after they were introduced and actually began to like each other. It sounded like a herd of elephants running through the apartment, banging, clanging, arghhhhh... They are not too bad now, but I do keep them locked out of my room.

Good luck, I know how irritating it can be to be kept awake. This morning around 6:00 a.m., it was a nasty cat fight outside my window (feral cats). Yikes!

Happy Easter, hope you can get some rest today!
That is so funny - my cats THUNDER through the house half the night after the dogs go to bed. I may be crazy, but the sounds of my dogs snoring & the cats thundering is music to my ears - I find it comforting!
I kind of like that chaotic night music myself, but I'm also thinking if an intruder came into the house, I'd sleep soundly through it, believing it was my little rascals running around. Sad
