I'd like to hear from all the raggie lovers who also have dogs. Are there certain breeds that tend to get along more? Big vs small dog? oh and please post pics of your kitty loving pups!
Through my research, it seems that Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are the Ragdolls of the dog world.
My personal favorite breeds are Rottweilers, Pit bulls/Staffies, German Shepherds, Australian Shepherds and Akitas, although I wouldn't necessarily say I am able to own these kinds of dogs. I love the muscular big headed look! Raising my rottweiler Gary was no easy task, they are a stubborn, dominant, and independent breed, he gest along with cats who are dog savvy. If the cat runs, he will chase and try to play rough!
I would own a Cavalier, definitely.
My breeds I would not want to own; Corgis, Bulldogs, Pomeranians, Jack Russel Terriers.
My mom's dog Zumi LOVES all critters. She is a German Shepherd/Australian Shepherd mix (we think)
Here is Gary, my handsome handsome goofball of a boy

My husband and I are looking at getting a dog soon as well, so I have been doing alot of research--I worked at a vet clinic with animals that were being boarded, and also have volunteered at the SPCA for a couple years, so I have gotten familiar with hundreds of differant breeds, and I think it all boils down to the individual dog. Alot of info online says if you are worried about your dog getting along with your cat, you may want to avoid sight hounds and terriers, as they are bred to chase things by nature--again, though, it depends on the individual dog---some dogs in those catagories may get along well with cats--essp. if raised with them from puppyhood.
If you adopt an adult dog, you can ask the volunteers if the dog has lived with cats or other small animals.
I hope this helps, and let me know if you get any new info too, b/c I have had the same question(-: good post!!
Great thread.
Okay here are my two together, Pebbles has sence passed but was such a sweet heart and so much love and missed.
Recently, my boy Evo made friends with my 2 shelties... Both the dogs love Evo very much.. I have posted some pics in one of my threads... Although shelties are medium sized dogs, but they are much bigger than a ragdoll... So, I guess ragdolls have the heart of a lion, and with proper introduction, ragdolls should be able to make friends with dogs...

Thanks for the pics! They are so adorable together

especially when the puppy is much bigger than the kitty!
My two are best friends, and they definitely keep each other company when we're out of the house. Mine is a bulldog/pitbull mix (I love the big heads too), though I'd love to also have a small dog!

Living in the country almost everyone has a border collie with their cats, I've kept collies and cats myself, now I have a Bichon who gets on great with the cats. I know people who have Beagles, chiuauaha's, jack russels, labs, mongrels and dobermans who all get on with cats. I have only heard of one incident involving 2 German Shepherds. A couple took on a 1 yr old dog, they already had a 2 yr old shepherd as well as 2 adult cats. Somehow one of the cats got trapped in the bathroom with both dogs. The dogs attacked and killed the cat. Prior to this there had been no problems with the dogs and cats, it may well have been due to the confinement in a small space. The incident took place 3 months after the new dog moved in. The 1 yr old was re-homed and the other dog and remaining cat continued to be friends, there was no further incidences with those 2.
I'm not a huge dog fan, I like them but probably won't even own one. But there is two breeds I particularily like, Golden Retrievers and Border Collies. And if I was to ever get a dog, it would be one of those two. I must like big and longhaired, in both the cat and dog world!
Gorgeous photos everyone.

We have my daughter's dog Lucy living with us and if asked on the day I met Lucy if I would let her come and live here I would have said no. Lucy came from the RSPCA, Beth gave her a home when she was approximately 10 months old. Lucy had been confiscated from her previous home at the age of 5 months when the neighbours reported her owners as Lucy as a puppy was tied with a piece of rope to the washing line and left outside all day and night all winter. The rope that was tied around her neck was not long enough for her front paws to touch the ground and the children in the family used to hit her with sticks to make her run up and down the garden on her back legs, suspended from the washing line.
The day I met Lucy she scared me! I had never encountered such a nasty sounding dog but she wasn't nasty, she was terrified. She couldn't cope with strangers and her natural reaction to fear was to attack.
18 months after getting Lucy Beth and her boyfriend split up and Beth moved home. The ex said he was going to have Lucy pts as she was still unreliable with visitors so Lucy came too. When she moved in we only had one cat, Gracie but within 4 years we are now up to 13 plus kittens.
Lucy is amazing!!! She lets kittens play with her tail and sniff around her face, she puts up with Lola cuddling up to her one minute and spitting in her face the next and the worst thing she does is steal the cat toys and eat the food.
Here's Lucy....
